If a student is absent, Miss Florkiewicz and I will collect the work missed and give it to the student when (s)he returns. Class Business Field Trips are being finalized and a separate note will be sent home with all the information and fees. Fall, student-led parentteacher conferences will be Tuesday, November 18 and Thursday, November 20 from 3:30 – 7:15. It is grasping the soul of them.” Paulo Friere Teaching Methods We will use Literacy by Design, an interactive reading notebook, ‘small books’, novels, read alouds, independent reading... We use mini-lessons, whole group work, small group meetings (guided reading), independent work and individual conferences. We will be learning about comprehension strategies and the metacognition behind reading. We continue to expand vocabulary and improve fluency. Reading Logs are given at the beginning of each week, students are to read 60 minutes for the week. Turn in Log on Friday. Students will have spelling due each Friday. Tests are every other Friday. Grading Graded work is sent home in Tiger Folder. Infinite Campus is our district-wide electronic grade book. I update periodically. We give letter grades on report cards. Communication Tiger Folders will be sent home each day with homework, study guides, notes and graded work. On Fridays they will also have notes/announcements from the office, PTO, other groups. Please make sure the Tiger Folders go back and forth each day. Email is the best form of communication. All information is on my class website which can be accessed through the school’s web page. Club 45 This is our Intervention/Enrichment block of time. Using Spring OAA scores and STARS assessment taken this year, we have sorted the kids based on their needs in math and reading. If a student does not need extra help in math or reading, they are with teachers who are extending our curriculum with projects and study skills. 45 minutes every day 3 day rotation Days 1 & 4. 2 & 5, 3 & 6 Family Fridays! Family Fridays – we meet every Friday during homeroom with the McKelvey (5th grade) homeroom. Mrs. Patrizi is a part of the Family, too.
