Participants, Thank you for attending the Genetics workshop and sharing your ideas. Below are links to genetic online resources we shared during both genetics workshops. You may also access the Genetics kit manual at http://bonaire.cshl.edu/plantrep/ppt/ExploringGenetics.pdf Below this, you will find examples of FREE Apps for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. We will be updating the Genetics kit to reflect the new Essential Standards being developed by DPI and finish up the DNA Forensics activity. Please feel free to contact me with questions, comments, ideas that come to mind. Dropbox www.dropbox.com Store and access all of your files in in online cloud. Files can be accessed on MAC, PC, iPod Touch, iPAD, Smartphone, etc. JogTheWeb http://www.jogtheweb.com Great way to set up webquests or other websites you want students to see. Can include your own questions that students should answer as they view your sites. There is a grey borders so you can quickly scan class to make sure students are only on the websites you want them to view. However, these concepts can be difficult to teach. To make these concepts easier for students to grasp, have them create Paper Pets to examine the inheritance of genetic traits over multiple generations, the role and effects of genetic mutations, the origin and impact of genetic diseases, and the methods used to predict and track the inheritance of genetic traits. http://learningcenter.nsta.org/product_detail.aspx?id=10.2505/4/ss06_029_06_18 Texas Tailwind: Cycling Genetics Texas Ben Cooper writes a blog about cycling including great information on the genetic factors that affect cycling performance.
