Why We Do It…(in other words, what is the purpose of this class?)
The goal of the Media Technology class is to create self-learners. The above modules are simply
to tools to teach the following 21st Century National Technology Skills:
 Creativity and Innovation – Be creative and developing something that is new
 Communication and Collaboration – Working effectively with others
 Research and Information Fluency – Know how to find what you need to do the job
 Critical Thinking, Problem-Solving, and Decision Making – Plan, design, and solve
problems
 Digital Citizenship – use safe, ethical, and legal computer practices
 Technology Operations and Concepts – File management and trouble-shooting
How We Do It…(day-to-day class operations, grading, etc)
Class Operation - This class operates through modular instruction. Students will be grouped into
pairs of two in some modules and individually in others. Students are expected to respect fellow
group members at all times. They are expected to work collaboratively and remain on task
throughout the period to reach their highest possible potential. Failure to work together can result
in deductions of participation points for both students in the group. There will be no changing of
the groups once they begin.
Students are expected to complete at least three modules throughout the quarter. An end of
the quarter module completion grade worth 300 points will be given at the end of the quarter.
Four or more completed modules will receive a 100%. Three modules will receive 95%, two an
80%, and one module will receive a 65%.Some groups or individuals that work at a faster pace
may complete as many as five or six modules. Samples of the modules can be found on our
website. Go to http://fms.mesa.k12.co.us/ and click on daily announcements OR my page found
under staff.
Each day of class is worth 5 participation points. Students may lose points by not following
directions and rules in class, not being prepared for class, and not being on task all period.
Module grades will be derived from quizzes, assessment sheets, and projects. Grades will be
updated every week on Parent Bridge. All weekly participation points and all modules offered in
the class will be present on Parent Bridge. The grades for those assignments will be listed as an
EXC (blank) until the student completes that module or that week’s participation points are
posted. All other modules will remain as excused. This does not hurt the students’ grades in any
way. If you have any questions concerning the grading, please contact me and I will be glad to
explain.
(Please detach the bottom portion and return as soon as possible. Please keep the above
portion to refer to throughout the quarter if necessary.)
