THE FIELDS MEDAL 2014
The Mathematician's Nobel Prize
The Fields Medal, the greatest honor a
mathematician can receive, is described as
the ‘mathematician's Nobel Prize.
The Fields Medal Officially known as
International Medal for Outstanding
Discoveries in Mathematics, is a prize in
honor of John Charles Fields awarded to
mathematicians not over 40 years old at
each International Congress of the
International Mathematical Union (IMU)
every four years.
In 2014, Maryam Mirzakhani, the first
Iranian and Muslim woman in the world is
awarded Fields Medal. She is the graduate
of Sharif University of Technology in Iran and
at the moment is the outstanding faculty
and researcher in Stanford University in the
America.
Hironaka 1970 and Shing Tung Yau 1982
are the only Asians who are awarded the
Fields Medal since its establishment in
1924.
