Project Journal Club What: Each intern will be assigned a class date for presenting one (1) journal article orally to their peers and preceptors. Timeline: Intern may select journal article of choice; Assigned date for presentation will be given at least 4 weeks in advance Due Date(s): Dates for journal club will be between weeks 8 and 30. Topic Selection: Pediatrics Adult Acute Care Both The program coordinator will assign each intern a date for presentation of a journal article between weeks 8 and 30 for only one presentation per class day. Intern is responsible for selecting own article of choice. It is strongly recommended that each intern choose a journal article within the topics listed below that are within his/her concentration area: Concentration area topics: Pediatrics Concentration must choose topic in at least one of the following patient categories: chronic disease, growth faltering, micronutrient deficiencies, pediatric overweight and obesity, critically ill neonates, or critically ill infants and children. S1.1, S1.2 Adult Acute Care Concentration must choose topic in either neurosurgical intensive care or burn intensive care. S2.1, S2.2 Background: The interns will all receive a class on how to effectively evaluate the literature prior to having to complete their journal article presentation. Interns should utilize the preceptors as resources for assistance as needed. Time Management: It is the responsibility of the intern to self-manage time needed to complete the assignment. Presentation: The oral presentation of the topic will be done first on the class day assigned. The oral presentation should not exceed 15 minutes long, with 10 minutes left for questions. The presentation is informal and will be given to a group of preceptors and lecturers and the Program Coordinator for grading and feedback. It is suggested that interns utilize the internship outline for presenting journal club articles. Addresses CRD Competencies: 1.2, 1.4, 3.2, S1.1, S1.2, S2.1, S2.2 Grading: Completion of the task demonstrates satisfactory achievement (= Pass). At minimum three preceptors/lecturers and Program Coordinator will complete feedback form.
