Writing recommendations:
0
2/month
Step 1: Start With a Knockout Line
Start with a line that grabs your audience and makes them want to read more.
Step 2: Describe Your Relationship
Give the reader some context as to how you know the person, including your reporting relationship, what you worked on together, and the length of time you’ve known each other. Let readers know why you’re qualified to give the recommendation.
Step 3: Share a Standout Trait
Think about one or two things this person does better than anything else—or that really stand out to you above others—and focus your recommendation there.
Step 4: Add a Touch of Personality
People want to hire someone who not only gets the job done, but who’s also great to work with. Share something about what it’s like to work with this person.
Step 5: End With Your Solid Recommendation www.socialsellingeducation.com

Jan O’Donnel was one of my favorite students while teaching at the iSchool. Her enthusiasm for the subject was infectious and her engagement with the material was impressive. She stood out as a quick thinker, someone who could quickly see the most important point of a reading or conversation, and ask questions that quickly got to the point. I’m so glad that she’s started her own company and is helping people tell their stories in ways that engage their audiences and build their brands. She’s very good at what she does, and will bring welcome insight into any company she works for.
Walker Sampson was one of my graduate assistants while I was a professor at the iSchool. He worked with me on the IMLS funded
Videogame preservation project, and was hugely important to that project’s success. Walker is an independent thinker who understands the intricacies of digital curation and digitial preservation, and has an incredible attention to detail that I find so impressive. Walker was a joy to work with, all the professors www.socialsellingeducation.com

Write a recommendation for someone you know
Ruben Cantu is one of the most important guys in Austin. I’ve worked with him on the Austin Plus Social Good incubator, and have attened some of the Social Innovation meetups and I’m always impressed with his ability to bring people together, empower them to take action. His dedication to making the world a better place is infectious, and his organizational skills and vision for ATX is inspirational. He’s friendly and professional, he knows everyone and is very generous with his time and energy. I highly recommend connecting with him if you’re interested in social enterprise, and the power of community.
