DEFINING OBJECTIVES Overall Purpose 1. What are you writing? I will be defining quantum theory and emphasizing on the uncertainty principle and history of this theory 2. What prompts you to write? I was thinking of something complicated to write for eng 3060 class and I found this science to be interesting and unusual and have a lot of things to write about 3. What outcome do you desire? I would like to who ever read this article know what quantum physics is and how did it evolve to be what it is now 4. What outcome does your reader desire? Knowledge Reader Profile 1. Who is your primary reader? My primary readers are physics student and scientists 2. What is your reader’s relationship to you? None 3. What are your reader’s job title and responsibilities? They try to make sense of what we observe and study through math and physics 4. Who else might read your communication? Any person who thinks this theory is interesting 5. How familiar is your reader with your subject? Not many people are familiar with this subject but if the reader is perusing a physics major he must at least know the basis of such theory. 6. How familiar is your reader with your specialty? Nothing 7. Does your reader have any communication preferences you should take into account? They should be able to speak and read English so they can understand it . 8. Should you take into account any other things about your reader when writing? I have to keep in mind that they are smart and knowledgeable so I have to be careful not to say something that is not true or I would lose their interest Situational Analysis 1. What events and circumstances influence the way you should write? The fact that many resources may have false information about this theory I should be able to understand my subject and stop myself from mentioning any interpretations of the matter because it might be false. Usability Objectives (Reader’s Tasks) 1. What are the key questions your reader will ask while reading? Is this possible? How do we make it useful? Where can I go for support/resources? 2. How will your reader search for the answer? (The reader may use more than one strategy.) It has a large database on the internet he can browse and get the answers he desire. 3. How will your reader use the information you provide? ____ Compare point by point (what will be the points of comparison?) Attempt to determine how the information you provide will affect him or her Attempt to determine how the information you provide will affect his or her organization Follow instructions step by step _X___ Other (explain) I Persuasive Objectives (Reader’s Attitudes) 1. What is your reader’s attitude toward your subject? Why? What do you want it to be? The reader is interested in the subject matter. 2. What is your reader’s attitude toward you? Why? What do you want it to be? It depends what he would think after reading the article. Stakeholders 1. Who, besides your readers, are stakeholders in your communication? None Constraints 1. What expectations, regulations, or other factors limit the way you can write? I am limited because this is a broad subject and there is so much to condense. I will only focus on the uncertainty principle and the history of this theory
