On the basis of clientele: type of hotel on the basis of type of clientele:
 Business hotel: specializes providing facilities and amenities to the business and corporate
traveler. Facilities include business centers that provide meeting rooms, secretarial services and
modern telecommunication facilities including the internet. The business centers are equipped
with modern office automation. A business lounge allows executives to have private food and
beverages and will have the latest newspapers and perhaps a library. The rooms of business hotels
will be equipped with high-speed internet facilities, direct dial telecommunication link-up globally,
ergonomic writing desks and chairs, a mini-bar, safety lockers, multi-channel television etc.
services could include limousine service to and from the airport, concierge service, same day
laundry service, health club, access to golf courses, etc.
 Group hotel: are geared for volume traffic at any given time. Their lobbies are large to welcome
groups; they have separate registration counters; they also have lobby staff equipped to handle
volume baggage; they have separate baggage elevators; rooms that are all twin bedded; large
dining halls to seat several groups at a time; and briefing rooms for tour groups.
 Family hotel: are found mostly at resorts geared specifically for families. Rooms will be
interconnected with perhaps a kitchenette and basic cooking facilities. There would be
entertainment lounge equipped with television, indoor games and children’s play area. Many
would have outdoor children parks jogging paths and independent barbeque areas.
 Convention hotel: would firstly have plenary halls, smaller meeting rooms, administration offices,
large registration areas and large dining halls to feed up to 2000 people. The room would be
mostly twin-bedded with modern telecommunication systems, mini-bars, safety lockers etc. the
hotels will have shuttle coach services from the hotel to the airport and the city center to
transport delegates.
 Youth hostel: cater to travelling youth. The hostels will have dormitory style accommodation and
may be some single rooms for those who want to have a room all to themselves. Hostels will have
common toilets and shower areas, large dining halls with simple food, gymnasium, games courts
and fields. They may be equipped with an assembly hall with a stage for youth gatherings and
entertainment.

a) Independent hotels (partnership): Could be operated solely, in partnership or could be public
limited.
b) Chain hotels: The hotel which are running in different places i.e., within a country or out of the
country under one brand name is known as chain hotels. A chain hotel is usually classified as

Management contract: a new entrepreneur with little or no experience in the business may safely choose
to become the franchise of any well-established hotel chain. There could be a problem in operating the
business because but does not provide the experienced managers and employees required to run the
business on a day to day basis. Management contract is defined as a contract between two parties, the
owner of the property and a hotel operator (management contractor) by which the owner employs the
operator as an agent to assume the full responsibility for operating and managing hotel. Some of the

Franchising: franchising is an agreement between franchisee and franchisor and according to agreement,
the franchisor provides the well-established image, a tested and successful operating system, training
program, marketing, advertisement and reservation system in exchange of certain percentage of revenue
collected by the franchising hotel.




Franchise: A privilege or right officially granted to offer specific products or services under explicit
guidelines at a certain location for a declared period of time.
Franchise Agreement: The legal document between the Franchisor and the Franchisee that
governs the relationship between the two entities for a specified period of time. It frames the
relationship in a concise manner.
Franchisee: A person or entity to whom the right to conduct a business is granted by the
franchisor or licensor.
Franchisor: the Company owning/controlling the rights to grant franchises to potential
franchisees.
Referral groups (Marketing): referral group of hotels having similar standard to retain the individual
identity and at the same time to take the advantage of worldwide marketing. It consist of group of
independent hotel which have branded together for some common purpose, there is sufficient
consistency in the quality of service to consistently satisfy guest expectations. Hotel within the referral
group refer their guest to other affiliated properties.
Guest room contents and supplies
Bed: The main element of guest room is bed as it is used for a comfortable night sleep. In large hotels,
bed is usually made of lightweight wood furniture and polished with a selected mixture of suitable agents.
Generally bed supplies consist of bed linens which consist of Bed Sheets, Pillow Cover, Mattress Protector,
Blanket and Bed Cover. Bed should also consist of comfortable pillows and a Mattress.

Studio Bed: The bed is a sofa cum bed.
Fold away Bed: This bed can be folded away during day & again used at night.
Single Bed: This is the standard bed for accommodating only one person. Its size is 85*190 cm
Square or 36 inches by 75 inches.
Double Bed: Nearly double size of the single bed meant for accommodating two people. Its size
is 135*190cm square or 54 inches by 75 inches.
King Size Bed: This is a bed for 2 people with size 182*200 cm square or 78 inches by 80 inches.
Queen size bed: the bed is for two people size 60 inches by 80 inches.
Baby cot or crib
Bed Side Table: There are two bed side tables situated on the two corners of bed at the headboard side.
The height of these tables should be equal to the height of the bed. One set of telephone should be kept
on one of these tables.

Mini Bar: This is a small refrigerator which consists of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. It may also

Luggage Rack: It is a piece of furniture usually made of wood. It is mainly used for placing the guest
luggage.
Table by Lounge Chair: This is situated at one corner of the guest room which consists of some
comfortable furniture pieces for sitting arrangement and a table. The supplies of this table include
Ashtray, Matchbox and few magazines.
T.V Cabinet: This consists of a television set with different satellite channels. It should be placed in front
of the guest bed from where a guest can have a clear view. The supplies consist of a remote controller
and a TV channels guide.

Packages offered by the hotel
Meeting package: a complete meeting package includes the residential arrangement of the delegates,
meeting room, food and beverage requirements (meals, tea/coffee, snacks), along with transportation
facility, audio visual equipment like projectors, etc. to the meeting delegates.
Meal package: a meal package is the combination of room rent and meals, which may be all meals or a
combination of breakfast and lunch/ dinner. The hotel may offer meal packages based on the
requirement of guests and the suitability of the hotel’s operations. The various meal plans offered by
hotels are discussed at length in the subsequent section.
Marriage package: a marriage package includes all the necessary arrangements for the marriage party,
arrangement of reception buffet, and even a complimentary room / suite for the newly wedded couple.
Holiday package: a holiday package may include transportation, accommodation, meals, guide, and
sightseeing at destination. Generally, this package includes non-hotel products from the other service
providers like airlines.
