1) Rationale and context of the assignment .
The consultant will provide graphic design, branding and ongoing user interface support for a number of digital and offline projects for the Social Media and Engagement team within the Digital Strategy Section. The consultant will conceptualize and develop the branding and graphic design of dedicated digital presences and other aspects of
UNICEF’s social media platforms (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Instagram, Tumblr and Linkedin), various materials (print, PowerPoint, proposals, guidance material) and other initiatives as requested.
2) Scope of Work :
Conceptualize and develop products, including design and branding, to support communication initiatives of the Social Media and Engagement Section, their partners, and the Division of Communication.
Work closely with the project managers in the Social Media and Engagement Section to create products.
Devise and create multimedia presentations, engaging and message-targeted infographics/factographs and other communication materials as needed to showcase and market UNICEF’s work.
Develop and define guidelines for innovative communication material presently outside of the scope of
UNICEF’s branding guidelines.
Explore and propose ways to convey information through design elements.
Ensure third parties, vendors, and partners working with the Social Media and Engagement Section provide products and services that are in line with UNICEF branding, Division of Communication Guidelines, and quality standards.
3) Responsibilities :
Work in close coordination with Digital Strategy Section to provide support in building a strong Digital Strategy
Section design capacity.
Work with community managers, provide design support for UNICEF’s social media platforms (i.e. Voices of
Youth, UNICEF’s global presence on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Instagram, Tumblr and Linkedin) and respective campaigns.
Work with project managers and developers, provide design and branding support and implementation for the section’s projects, including but not limited to: End Violence Against Children, No Lost Generation, Voices of
Youth, State of the World’s Children, etc.
Develop a branding strategy for all projects, in line with the section’s broader strategy.
Conceptualize and design infographics/factographs to communicate key messages around specific topics.
Conceptualize and produce short animations and videos to share through digital platforms.
Support other team members in the preparation of interactive multimedia presentations (PowerPoint, Keynote, etc.)
Coordinate projects with third party design freelancers or companies when necessary.
Provide technical site support and creation, as necessary, through use of various technologies as well as use of CSS, HTML, JavaScript, etc.

Contribute to meeting all design and project benchmarks and deadlines.
Complete any and all project responsibilities in a timely fashion.
5) Duty Station : (if NYHQ)
NYHQ/DOC/Digital Strategy/Social Media and Engagement Section. May be asked to travel, and will travel in line with UNICEF travel policies. May work remotely (if applicable) and on holidays and weekends, if necessary.

Consultant may be required to travel under UNICEF guidelines.
Gerrit Beger, Senior Adviser, Social Media and Engagement Section, with support from Hugh Reilly, Social Media
Coordinator, Digital Community Manager and Digital Engagement Specialist, Digital Strategy, DOC Performance evaluated at the midway point and again upon completion of contract.
8) Performance indicators for evaluation of results : (e.g. timeliness, value of services rendered in relation to their costs, etc.)
Standard UNICEF evaluation will be used. Consultant will be evaluated based on the completion of the TOR activities and outcomes.
9) Qualifications or specialized knowledge/ experience required :
Expert knowledge in graphic design and graphic design software, including but not limited to: Adobe Photoshop,
Illustrator, InDesign, After effect, Final Cut Pro, Flash, Flex Builder, and the rest of the Adobe Creative Suite.
Advanced knowledge in concept and creation of specific graphic design assets, including infographics/factographs
(for print and digital), data visualization, animation, and interactive presentations.
Knowledge of web development, including but not limited to: Mobile Design, Wiki Design, User Interface design and testing, Information Architecture, and Dreamweaver is a plus.
Knowledge of programming languages is a plus, including: HTML, HTML5 and main frameworks (bootstrap, boiler plate), CSS (1 to 3), Javascript and the main library, PHP, AJAX, XML, Javascript, PHP, and MySQL.
Knowledge of Wordpress and other Content Management Systems is a plus.
Strong comprehension of theory related to human interaction with websites, information architecture, usability, accessibility, UX and interactive design is a plus.
Strong comprehension of work, standards and practices of UN and other International Government/Humanitarian
Organizations.
Strong comprehension of standards and best practices of social media platforms.
Ability to create lightweight web designs is a plus.
Provides advice on the best use of technologies with regard to design and interactive usability is a plus.
Self-motivated and results oriented.
Proven ability to deliver under tight deadlines.
Possesses strong organizational and detail-oriented skills.
International professional experience is an asset.
Understanding of UNICEF‘s work is a plus.
Brings evidence of success in preparing successful branding products and marketing materials.
High command of English. Other official UN languages such as Spanish and French are a plus.
