Immanuel Messenger Immanuel Lutheran Church and School 300 N. Grimes Giddings, Texas 78942 January 2016 OUR MISSION TO BRING CHRIST TO ALL PEOPLE BY PREACHING, TEACHING, SERVING AND SHARING AS WE CELEBRATE GOD’S LOVE. GOD WITH US… BRINGING HIM TO OTHERS Happy New Day! Happy and blessed New Year to you as we greet 2016. My prayer for you is that God would richly grant you His blessings, increasing your faith, hope, and love of Jesus. Each year many people go through the ritual of making New Year’s resolutions. Some people are serious about their resolutions, for others they’re simply conversation pieces. The range of resolutions is great; increased Bible study, more time at worship, eat better, workout more, the list goes on and on. Unfortunately most New Year’s resolutions, for one reason or another, fail. We often start with the best of intentions, but bad habits can be hard to break, good new habits are just as hard to start. When the resolutions fail, some will shrug it off, others react a bit stronger upset at their own lack of will power to make improvements in their lives. To those feeling of frustration and disappointment our Lord reminds us in 2 Corinthians 5:17, that “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” Romans 6 points to your baptism. V3-4, “Don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” So while we may be frustrated with our annual failures of making and keeping new resolutions, we have the promise that by God’s actions we have been made new. Let this good news be a daily reminder of God’s promises as you turn away from your sinful thoughts and actions in repentance and receive God’s forgiveness as His grace is poured out on you. With that daily remembrance of all that God has done, your faith, trust, and love in God will continue to be strengthened by His spirit. “ You were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” 1 Corinthians 6:11 Pastor Tiner SUNDAY MORNING BIBLE CLASSES Please join us at 9:15 AM at one of the following locations for Bible class.
