State at night/on the weekends. Please see Mrs. Bacher to discuss this further. Criteria to apply: 1 –need to have made an “A” or “B” in previous Math or English class, whichever subject you are planning to take 2 –need these scores on the PLAN or ACT tests*: a. Other classes have similar criteria *PSAT scores can be used if you don’t meet these 3 –need to be approved by a team of staff which includes: Teacher(s), school counselor, and Principal/Asst. Principal 4 - Need to have great time management skills, work well independently, and able to meet deadlines OVER Grant: *The grant is VERY TIME SENSATIVE. To receive it you will need to ensure all these things occur by June 15: 1 - Turn in an application turned in to Mrs. Bacher by March 27; have a passing score (ACT/PLAN) or make plans to take the Compass test by end of April 2 - Apply for the online DE Grant. 3 - Chatt. State has to process your application and send you a letter of acceptance to Chatt. State with an assigned student ID # (known as an “A” number) 4 - Must have a “$0.00” balance due to Chatt. State on Tiger Web by March 27 if you are a returning DE student *Must pass the class with a “B” to get the grant the next semester…once you have lost it, there is no way to earn it back and you will have to pay for the full price of the class *You must apply online prior to each semester or apply for Fall and Spring at the same time during March, which is highly recommended to avoid forgetting to do it next October. If you do not earn an A or B grade: You will lose the grant and have to pay full price for the 2nd semester course in January. If you cannot afford that, you will have to enroll into CCA’s regular level class. If you get an F (fail) the class: You will have to either: 1 – re-enroll and pay full price for the DE class, then pay out-of-pocket in the summer for the 2cd half of the class OR 2 – enroll in CCA’s regular level class in January and take a credit recovery class in summer school, at the expense of $375 for 6-weeks. Either of these could cause a significant change in the student’s class schedule for the spring semester and most likely would result in dropping 1 or more arts class(-es) to accommodate this change. Final Considerations for Taking a DE Classes: How much time do you have outside of school? How busy is next school year, academically? Do you have a job? What format would work best for your learning (lecture style, online, etc.)? Is time management your strong-suit? Are you able to meet deadlines with very few reminders? What is your major and do you have a lot of rehearsals? Is there money in your family budget to cover a full price of a class if an ‘A’ or ‘B’ grade is not made? **Time is usually more of an issue than ability when taking a DE class** So make sure you are committed (academically and financially) to taking this class the entire year For more information: 1 - See the detailed Power Point on CCA’s website under the “Resources” tab at: www.centerforcreativearts.net 2 - For more questions after that, then email Mrs. Bacher at: bacher_s@hcde.org (primary contact) 209-5949 (office)
