Open, Close and Supervision Checklist - Mt Lawley
Staff will be responsible as a team to ensure the following is actioned:
 Use safe manual handling techniques when performing the following duties
 Are always vigilant on shift in identifying and immediately making safe the facility
 Check and identify the emergency plans are accessible in your work area
 To report immediately to your supervisor, including but not limited to trip hazards, EXIT signs not being
illuminated, flickering lights or out of order equipment
 Ensure any out of order equipment will be signed and wrapped in hazard tape so it is clear to all users
that the equipment is out of order.
Items in bold are specific for gym instructors. In the event a reception person is running late this
document can be referenced by gym staff and found at reception in the ‘Communication File’ in the
reference section.
Open Process
1.
Swipe your access card on panel near security phone at main entrance.
2.
Deactivate alarm (if not already done by security or cleaners).
3.
Swipe access card to enter reception office.
4.
Turn on relevant lights for the centre in accordance with panel directions at reception.
5.
(Gym) turn on lights for the gym, (switches located in reception) turn on TV’s
and electronic exercise equipment. Ensure one screen displays media slides.
6.
(Gym) open Fitness Studio . Check music is audible in the centre.
7.
(Gym) dust and wipe down treadmill runners and displays.
8.
Ensure alert/evac controller is switched to auto.
9.
Check that the change room lights are on (if not already done by cleaners).
10. 5.30am or earlier open, will need to turn air-conditioning manually.
11. Turn on and log onto computer as required.
12. EFTPOS Machine: Press settlement – print outs go in centre Administrator’s in-tray.
NOTE: If computer or Flex does not open correctly, do a complete shutdown of the computer and try again.
Double check all cables are plugged in at the wall and back of computer. Check the receipt printer has
paper in it and is switched on as till draw will not open if printer is switched off.
13. Collect lift keys and car park gate remote from key locker in office. Turn lift fan to ON and door hold to OFF.
Take the lift to the basement car park and turn lift security switch to OFF once you are outside the lift. Use
remote to open car park gates and open dividing door in the stairwell opposite the lift.
14. Follow Till Check List.
15. Check the phone for messages. If messages have been left, press voice mail and follow the prompts to
check messages. Check phone list at reception for most recent code as it automatically changes).
16. Turn lift ‘Door hold’ to OFF 1-2 min before opening time.

17. Fill water for bands for Tone & Shape Studio. Cleaning duties – ensure all items are done in accordance
with the appraisal/program diary responsibilities list.
18. (Gym & Reception) Read all memos in Communication file and all staff to check your work email within the
first hour of your shift.
Close Process
Items 1 to 3 to be completed Monday to Thursday before reception person leaves unless class still
running.

MPR fire exit door locked - push to check
Turn off treadmills, air-conditioning and fans in fitness studio
Wash, dry and put away dishes, and wipe down kitchen benches
All doors locked including double doors to lobby
MLSHS areas / Crèche







Glass door to MLSHS locked - push to check
Emergency exit door near MLSHS male change rooms locked
MLSHS Phys Ed office door locked
MLSHS tea preparation room external door near Crèche area is locked
Cleaner’s room locked
Crèche external door to play area locked
Crèche exit door locked, lights off

Check storeroom cleanliness & report any incorrect storage of equipment in communication file
Put away any equipment left on courts, collect rubbish and collect lost property

Fire exit doors x 2 - push to check, lights off - switches in reception
Empty wristband water and dry wrist bands
Clean entrance door windows, tidy and wipe desks
File diary sheets for that day
Stock fridge
Appraisal room cabinet to be locked, lights off
Windows locked,
TV’s and cardio equipment turned off
Settlements and banking, as per till guideline document.
Lock safe doors and safe cupboard doors,
Shut down computers – reception and back office
Lift lock switched to fan ‘off’ and door hold ‘on’ with door open

Lights off except one set left on in reception
