Advice: Parents & Carers
• Pupils have weekly article summary activities
• Pupils have a weekly literary definitions test to prepare for (i.e. 5 definitions per week)
• Pupils should be reading high-quality newspaper articles – in print or online
• Parents and carers are encouraged to read and comment on written work produced by
the pupil
• Parents and carers are encouraged to provide pupils with a distraction free area for
study use
Advice: Pupils
• Pupils should be reviewing all literature being studied: classwork notes, annotated
copies of poems, blogs, audio editions, etc.
• Pupils should be creating study cards for all literature studied – important quotations,
techniques used, evaluations, etc.
• Pupils should be reviewing close reading advice – creating study cards to help in the
revision of the step-by-step approach; using past papers in order to familiarise
themselves with close reading techniques and question types.
