Eco packaging firm Vegware launches in Hong Kong
Vegware is the global leader in eco food disposables, creating completely
compostable packaging for food to go. They have now launched in Hong
Kong, bringing their experience in sustainable food packaging solutions for
carbon-conscious brands.
Vegware manufactures certified compostable catering disposables for
everything needed for food to go. All Vegware’s disposables are made from
low-carbon, plastic-free, recycled or renewable materials and unlike most
foodservice packaging; Vegware can be simply recycled together with food
waste after use.
Vegware products are practical and stylish, and people love the look and feelgood factor of their eco materials. Packaging made from plants, not plastic
means less carbon. For example, the recycled sugarcane used to make
Vegware’s takeaway plates and boxes has 99% less embodied CO2 than
polystyrene.
Vegware’s Group Recycling Consultant, Eilidh Brunton comments, “In 2013,
by choosing to use our eco packaging, Vegware’s UK customers saved 925
tonnes of carbon. This demonstrates that businesses and caterers have a real
opportunity to boost CSR and reduce their carbon footprint, by simply
switching from conventional foodservice packaging to using eco disposables.”
From the three cutlery items offered five years ago, Vegware’s range has
grown to over 200 completely compostable products, including many awardwinning packaging innovations resulting from the firm’s active R&D
programme.
Vegware is taking green mainstream with their practical holistic solution,
improving foodservice’s sustainability and recycling. Run from its Edinburgh
HQ, Vegware is now a global brand with operations in the UK, US, South
Africa, Australasia, UAE and now Hong Kong, with a Europe-wide network of
distribution partners from Iceland to Portugal. UK clients range from the
biggest contract caterers and food distributors through to government offices,
NHS units and independent artisan cafes and delis.
Recently named the UK’s 30th fastest-growing company in the Deloitte Fast
50 Awards, Vegware has achieved 901% turnover growth in five years,
coming 160th in the Europe, the Middle East and Africa tech-sector ranking.
Vegware’s UK team has expanded from 2 in 2009 to the current 46, with sales
on target for another 60% growth this year. The Edinburgh SME is now the
only completely compostable packaging firm operating globally, helping
brands around the world go for an eco boost.
