The statement of purpose will provide an opportunity to explain any extenuating circumstances that you feel could add value to
your application. You may also want to explain unique aspects of your academic background or valued experiences you may
have had that relate to your academic discipline. The statement of purpose is not meant to be a listing of accomplishments in
high school or a record of your participation in school-related activities. Rather, this is your opportunity to address the
admissions committee directly and to let us know more about you as an individual, in a manner that your transcripts and other
application information cannot convey.
I made a 3.4 my first semester of college because I studied every single chance I got. Every free moment out of class I was
reading my textbooks and doing every thing necessary to ensure a good GPA from the start.
I came to college to make a good life for myself while I have the opportunity to do so.
I intend to reach a good life by working hard
I overcompensated my studying habits in the beginning because I put college on a pedestal. I put everything I had into this
college experience because I knew that this is my only shot to ensure the wonderful life that I want. I strived for my grades and
pushed myself to the limit to attain my goal.
I try to sustain these good habits by keeping myself busy through work and school. I have been working at a clothing store and
have become one of the top sales people. I like to talk to people and help them pick out there clothes so in return I can see
there smiling faces and know that it was because of me that the smile is there. I enjoy working and helping people and making
them feel happy and feel better about themselves. I’m very outgoing so working there is actually fun to me and makes me feel
like I have more of a purpose. My study habits really came into play whenever I first got in to college. There was no way I was
letting this one chance slip through my fingers. I had to study more than most people just to get the same grades as them so if I
wanted better grades then I knew I really had to push it. Every chance I got I was studying. I made my classes my interests. I
realized that I’m taking these classes for a reason, to learn everything I can. I made connections with certain teachers that will
forever inspire me. For instance, my composition teacher made us free write like five or six pages everyday. A lot of students
didn’t like it but I did because it really helped me develop my voice.
I attached myself to people who would actually push me and want the same goals as I do. My new found friend Baily at the
time really cared about her college career and so did I. we always got together over coffee and made sure our grades were
higher than everyone else’s in our class. It was actually fun because to us it was like a contest but win or lose we still got the pay
off of the good grade. I find peace in the gratification I get at the end of working hard and having it pay off.

Communication has helped my school and personal life. My academic discipline is stemmed from my consideration of people. I
learned the different types of conversations that I should have in different settings. I learned to listen and observe to establish
the kind of communication I should have with certain people. I learned to understand people who have difficulty
communicating. I learned a lot of life lessons like empathy. I don’t judge people because I myself am not perfect no matter how
hard I try. I understand that people are from different places and have been through different experiences than I have. For
instance, my friend Kelisha who is on her own and doesn’t have a car or anyone to turn to became my friend through her
positive energy. We are different in many ways and a lot of people would not think we would be friends but I see the good
person in her. I helped her with rides to work and even took her home to Victoria because no one else would. Il be there for her
because no one else will.
I’m willing to listen and learn from each individual and sustain a relationship.
My school and work ethic apply to my major because its really helped me understand differenet kinds of people and accept
everyone for who they are.
I can add value from my original spirit. I have came along way from where I was in highschool. I have grown as a person and so
has my gpa. I started out with a 3.4 my first semester of college and ending this semester with a 3.7. I will keep climbing in my
social status and also in numbers. As an individual I am determined, eager, and want to prove to the world that I belong in a
strong academic setting. Im not perfect, im just like everybody else. But I have knowledge from experience in my life that many
people don’t. I have a strong suit in getting along with others no matter how different from me they are. Im very outgoing and
its easy for me to start a conversation with anyone, even the most quiet of people. I know being social isn’t everything to
everyone but that’s what im good at. Im good at communicating and that is why I am a communication major. I just don’t want
to be an average graduate. I want to be extraordinary and have an extraordinary degree to back it up. I feel that if I graduated
from the university of texas I would shine. I just need the chance for someone to notice me. Ive been through a lot and not
always had the perfect grades in highschool but I changed all that with my spririt and my hope. All im asking is for the person
reading this to just have some faith in me like I do in myself. Ive never had broken dreams just incomplete ones. And my dreams
will be complete if you let me into your magnificent university.
Im different because of my appreciation. I know if I got into your university I would not only pass but I would excel
tremendously. I would do everything in my power to make the deans list because my apriciation goes beyond space. I mean my
gratitude is out of this world. I realize the oppurtunities that I would have if given the chance and I so desperately want that
chance. Ive been through hardships and I know that other people have to. The only difference is that ive grown from my
struggles and realize the importance of this life and I realize I only have one shot. Ive changed as a person and that’s not an easy
thing to do. I just want all of you who are reading this paper to believe in me as much as I believe in myself. I will not let you
down its not a promise but a guarantee. I would add great strength to your university because of my accelerated drive. I have
only grown in my gpa and as a person and it will continue to grow.
