Minara Akter CEP 121: Course Code – 7006 05 February 2009 Professor: Stacy Perry Reflection Essay This semester was a great opportunity to learn about myself, my future goals and also had helped me to understand the factors that influence my career choices and my success. For this semester most of my classes were related to my major, which gave me more opportunity to be more spotlight on my career path. My major is Business Administration and the classes that I took was Marketing, Business Law, Communication and Sociology which let me become further aware about the business world works, what are the laws we should be conscious, why keeping communication is involved so much in order to deal in professional world and as well as global economy. There are so many valuable information that I became to know which drove to become more challengeable. The learning experience from my classes has strengthened my inner ability and I can positively admit that I am almost ready to prepare my future career as a student and as a professional. To discuss about the semester about my academic and career goals, one of my class that impacted me the most was CEP121(professional fundamental professionalism), where I was writing the essay about me and edifying my resume I had an opportunity to think about myself which I always don’t think. I tried to find my personalities including strength points and weak points, and I learned how to explain myself professionally. Goal setting suggested me to work for it and how to achieve the goals. They made my goals 1 more reasonable and made them easy to achieve. I was able to organize my ideas about my professional future goals. Similarly I was able to evaluate and compare my experience, my knowledge against my educational plans in order for me to get a new idea of my goals and ambitions. There are more classes that I took which had big impacts on my academic and career goals such as ENG 101(Composition- Introduction to writing) and ENG 102(Composition II, Writing Through Literature). By reading and writing projects and assignments for the class my skills were developed which took me through to finish doing all of my class tasks. I have learned how to use quotations from the sources in doing researches and I also have learned how to write objectively. Focusing mainly on short stories and poems increased my interest in literature. Researching unfamiliar topic is a learning experience especially when it is related to our interest. The major that I choose is Business Administration; I do have an ambition to be an entrepreneur. For the business world it is essential to know about the marketing plans, targeting market, those are the most essential area that I needed more understanding which I gain from my AMM 104(principles of marketing) class and I also learned how to be clear and measurable, and have a stated time frame for achievement. In order for me to be more communicative with people I had to be more conscious about several aspects of society such as racial and gender relations as well as institutions such as family and religion, the overview of our modern society how it works, also many sociological concepts I had learned because the world is becoming much more diverse day by day. The year of 2009 is a challenge for me because I am high achiever, I am trying to keep my GPA as high as possible, I am a scholarship recipient which encouraging me to 2 move forward towards my goals. After this semester I still need to take more credits to be graduate by Fall 2009. Then I have a plan to go to Baruch College for my Bachelors degree and I also plan to do my MBA in Business/Finance at Columbia University. Since my career will be related to the fiend of Business/Marketing/Advertising I have to try to concentrate my attention on developing communication and other skills in order for me to be prepared for business world. Finally I would like state that learning in class is one aspect of education, but self-obtained knowledge is equally important. Enlightenment through experience and reading is the purpose in school, and it signifies one’s development. 3
