BIO - David Campbell Business Owner, Cartridge World NSW and ACT NSW and Australian Masters Hockey Representative Professional Background David has been in senior commercial management roles since the age of 25 with National and International companies, these management positions included Sales and Marketing, National Business Development and Group General Management. The latter role involved over 350 employees and 8 senior management staff. In recent years (1999) David moved into private enterprise as one of the original Master Franchisees of Cartridge World. Cartridge World was established in 1999 in Australia and has since moved into over 50 countries, with approximately 1,700 retail stores. Being involved with a franchise group like Cartridge World from the very beginning has given David a sound understanding of the non corporate sector and what is required to run a successful operation involving stakeholders with varying interests and needs. David is also Chairman of the industry body, Australasian Cartridge Remanufacturers Association (ACRA) Hockey Background, Knowledge and Experience (Player and Administrator) David has played hockey in Queensland as a youngster (up until 24), in Western Australia between 1980–84, and then in Sydney for the past 25 years. He played first grade from the age of 16 until retiring in 1989 for 4 seasons owing to business commitments – he returned to hockey in 1993 when his son wanted to play the game and coached and played first grade until 1999, he continues to play club hockey with Norwest Strikers today. David started playing veterans hockey with Sutherland in 1995 (winning 15 age titles) and has represented NSW in all that time, he has also played for Australian Masters for almost a decade. On the administration level David has also had an extensive involvement with hockey in NSW for over 20 years. I have played in a number of Premiership winning teams at club level. I worked my way up through the grades to be selected as the keeper for the Premier One Team for a number of years before returning down through the grades to finish playing grade hockey in third grade in 2002. I started playing veterans hockey in 1994 in the Masters World Cup with a club side for Glebe. I was selected in a number of Sydney teams to play at State Championships. I currently play with Sutherland St George Masters and have been with them since 2000. I have been a member of their rep side since 2000. I first represented NSW in 2005 in Wollongong in the NSW over 50/3 and have been selected to represent for the last 9 years, including the 55 /1 team to tour in Bunbury. I have been named as a shadow player for the Australian Masters team from 3 tournaments. I have been in teams that have won 3 National Titles (Darwin 50’s, Hobart and Sydney 55’s) Official Positions: Club Secretary for Baulkham hills for 2 years (1977 – 8) Life member of Baulkham Hills District Men’s Club elected in 1997 Coaching: 1981 – 1987 I was the Metropolitan West (now Sydney West) Boys Hockey Convenor and Coach. I qualified for a level 1 coaching certificate in 1992. I maintained my qualification for 15 years. During that time I was a Club and Team Coach for Blaxland Rovers Women’s. During that time I served on the club’s management committee and as the club’s representative at the Western Districts Women’s Committee Meetings for 5 years. I was elected as a Western District’s Women’s Rep. Coach for 5 years and was First grade coach for Blaxland Rovers for 4 years, in our local women’s comp. Personal Attributes and management skills I would bring to the role: Good interpersonal skills as a teacher and Head teacher of a staff of 10 teachers. I have excellent communication and negotiation skills. As a teacher and Head of department I have had to interact with both the public and Staff on a daily basis. I am a good team member and will confidently step up to leadership roles if required or requested. I have a fair range of computer skills in Microsoft Office applications. Budgeting: I am able to draw up and adapt budgets effectively. As Head of my department I also handled a modest budget (a Public High School) with great success. Timetabler: I have a good grasp of scheduling and timetabling after formulating the timetable for a staff of 68+ teachers and over 1000 students each year for 15 years. These skills could translate to composing carnival and completion draws. Other Management Activities outside of Hockey. I was State Secretary for NSW Hang Gliding Association for 3 years from 1979 to 1982. In this role I helped establish the now Australian wide rating system for pilots and flying sites as well as organise a number of State wide Safety Conferences. This role required me to work with both our membership and State and National Authorities to establish a developing sport in a national framework.
