Weekly Lesson Plan, All Classes – Béa Tomaselli Tiritilli – Nov. 10-14
GENERAL NOTES:

To make it easier for me to find what I need, I color code my lesson plans below as
follows: Grade 9 Environmental Science is blue; Grade 10 Chemistry is violet; and Grade
12 AP Environmental Science is green.

Standards/Objectives this week: Students will demonstrate understanding of APES Standard
IIC. Ecosystem Diversity.
Warm-Ups this week - define the following in science notebooks: keystone species;
ecotourism; endangered species; Endangered Species Act; threatened species; exotic species;
endemic species; poaching
NOTE: This week’s vocabulary will be included on next week’s test. Per. 2 will lose a day
to testing sometime this week. I also may add a lab depending on how fast our experimental
plants are growing. So this week’s lesson is a little vague. *
Scaffolding/Differentiation:
Monday: as a group, peruse/discuss Ch. 10.1. Students will then read Ch. 10.2 and
answer Qs 1-3 & 5, pg. 269, in SNBs. HW due Weds.
 Tues.: No school
 Wednesday: Stamp HW. Review/discuss answers. Read Ch. 10.3. In SNBs, answer Qs
1-4, pg. 275. Due Friday.
 Thurs: Continue PPT & notes from last week. In small groups, share/write opinions to
questions 5-7, pg. 275. Discuss answers as a class. Students then have the rest of the
period to finish HW due tomorrow or to do extra credit: WDYT Qs, pg. 285.
 Friday: Stamp/discuss HW. Possible lab. or PPT *
Homework:
 Due Weds., Nov. 12: answer Qs 1-3 & 5, pg. 269, in SNBs.
 Qs 1-4, pg. 275


Standards/Objectives this week: Students will build on their understanding of Chemistry
Standard 1. Atomic and molecular structure
Warm-Ups: (Include need to write down homework): ion; ionization energy; octet rule;
electronegativity; also, explain the difference between atomic radius and ionic radius (see pages
187-190) NOTE: no vocab. quiz this week. This week’s terms will be included on next week’s
test.
Scaffolding/differentiation this week:
 Monday: Grade 11 will be on field trip. For other students: We’ll stamp & discuss HW,
(Answer Qs 2-7, pg. 181). Students will begin Periodic Table color chart, due Thurs.
 Tuesday: No school
 Weds. Stamp HW for students absent Monday. Last chance for make-up presentations.
Some students will just be starting HW due Thursday; but those who are done can get a
head start on new HW: Read Ch. 6.2 and answer Qs 11, 14 & 15, pg. 186 in SNBs. Qs
12-13 = extra credit. Due Friday.
 Thurs. Collect HW. Begin new portfolios. If time left, students may work on homework
due tomorrow.
 Friday: Stamp/discuss HW. Show short videos to introduce Ch. 6.3:

Standards/Objectives this week: Students will demonstrate their understanding of APES
Standard VI B. Pollution- Impacts on the Environment and Human Health; and APES laboratory
and field investigation standards.
Warm-Ups—define the following in science notebooks: carcinogen; mutagen; teratogen;
pathway inhibitor; endocrine disruptor; acute exposure; chronic exposure; bioaccumulation;
biomagnification; epidemiological studies
NOTE: Last week’s warm-up terms will be included in this week’s vocab. quiz. They are:
sprawl; zoning; smart growth; new urbanism; transit-oriented development; greenways;
greenbelts; green buildings; LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design); urban
heat island effect; toxicology; toxicant
Scaffolding/differentiation:
 Monday: Finish Parts Per Million lab. Check health of Eco Columns. Begin new HW:
Read Ch. 14. Write 1-2 sentences summarizing each section with a blue headline; PLUS
write summaries of problems/controversy with Bisphenol A, and Pesticides and Child
Development in Mexico (due Thurs.). Also, Eco Column lab report will be due Weds.,
Nov. 19. Students will get some time in class to work on this Thurs. and Fri. Extra credit:
Make poster explaining Eco Columns.
 Tues.: No class
 Weds.: Sierra Club guest speaker Tom Williams will discuss local environmental issues.
 Thurs.: Stamp Chapter 14 summaries. Discuss. HW: Continue Eco-Column lab report.
Note: HW passes may only be used on this report if each lab partner contributes 20
tickets.
 Fri.: Stamp warm-up terms. Take vocab. quiz. Work on eco-column lab report, due
Weds., Nov. 19.

open note; and they’ll be given preferential seating in class.

 Environmental Science Club students will continue pot decorations, terrarium creation, and
growing plants from cuttings and seeds, and model-car building
