Rule Book Before participating in the Business Simulation game organized by American Express, you should read the official rules - which include the Base Rules and the Additional Rules, in their entirety. By participating, you unconditionally agree to all of the terms and conditions of these official rules. Furthermore, you accept any and all of American Express's decisions with regards to the game as final and binding in all respects. The Business Simulation Game This Business Simulation Game is organized by American Express - a multinational financial services corporation headquartered at the World Financial Center, Manhattan, New York City, United States of America. The aim of the Game is to offer the students a pedagogical and professional experience in some aspects of the credit card industry and the opportunity to explore analytics from a practical perspective. This Game is a part of American Express' campus communication strategy and aims to enhance students' analytical and decision making skills and enrich their knowledge of the credit card economics in general. Basic Rules Who can participate? The Business Simulation Game is open to all students from School of Management at Fudan University. Students have to register in teams, each having 1 or 2 members. It is advised that you register in 2 member teams. All Members of a team must be enrolled at the same institute. One student is allowed to register under one team only. All members of the teams must have valid institute email IDs which will be validated during registration. The Game Schedule Registrations for the game will begin on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. The Business Simulation Game will be held online from 7:00pm to 8:15pm on Sunday, November 9, 2014 (China local time). Students must be logged in to the game website (int.axpcampus.com) at that time to play the game. This rulebook, FAQ booklet and a Game Interface guide would be available on the website int.axpcampus.com Team Composition Please reach out to campus.centurion@aexp.com for requests in team composition, marking all involved team members. 12-Mar-2016 AXP Internal Page 1 of 4 Steps of the Competition 1. Step 1: Registration: Teams/individuals wishing to register themselves must visit the American Express Campus website: int.axpcampus.com for registration. After registration, all team members would automatically get a confirmation mail with a User ID which is the Team Name and an auto-generated confirmation code. The activation code has to be used on first login for completion of registration. A Detailed step by step procedure for registering individuals and teams is available in the Game Guide on the website. 2. Step 2: Pre-work - Before the Game: The details about the game and useful documents on the Game Interface and basic concepts of card industry will be available post registration, on the website. Participants are advised to go through these documents for achieving best results during the game. 3. Step 3: Playing the Game: On the appointed day for the campus qualifiers, participants can play the game online from the same website. Participating teams are required to have a computer with a working internet connection to play the game. Teams are advised to also play the game through "Google Chrome" web browser for the best experience. The game will be played in 2 Stages. Teams will play as a firm investing in the credit card market competing against each other. The participants will need to purchase data and analyze the same to make informed business investments across given list of investment options to win in a real-time marketplace where all competing teams are also doing the same. In the first stage, the teams will be given limited funds, data and options to invest in. This will act as a pilot stage with limited stakes. Post learning in Stage 1, they will proceed to the second stage, where they will compete with a higher budget, more data and more investment options. A Wizard will also be introduced in this stage. Wizard is a big investor who enters the game and has the power to change the market. This change could be through investment in the market or by changing customer behavior. Teams will receive a pop up notification informing them about the Wizard's Strategy in the game as soon as he enters the market. Combined net-worth of the team after the 2 Stages will be used to decide the winners. Judging criteria The teams with the maximum net worth at the end of the game will be adjudged as winners of the respective stages. The net worth will be a function of investment decisions made by all the teams in market place. Prizes Each member of the first prize winning team in the National Finale would receive an Apple iPad Air. Each member of the first runners up team would receive an Apple iPad Mini. Class of 2016 graduate students from top teams will be eligible for an interview for 2015 summer internship at American Express. 12-Mar-2016 AXP Internal Page 2 of 4 Communicating with the Organizers The American Express Campus Team is responsible for the organization of the Game. They will be the direct contact point and information provider for the students and/or the teams. All issues, doubts, queries, requests for extension of deadline, etc should be addressed to the American Express Campus Team Email campus.centurion@aexp.com . Additional Rules Personal Information Personal data collected during the registration process shall be processed solely by American Express for purposes of registration to the competition. Only personnel authorized by American Express can access participants' data. Involvement of the media Students and/or teams are prohibited from any direct and/or indirect contact with the media regarding this competition, except if authorized by the American Express Campus Team. Involvement of Professors and School Staff The support of professors and/or school staff must be limited to general information relating to conceptual knowledge and must not relate to the Simulation Game competition specifically. Unauthorized or excessive assistance will lead to team disqualification. Disqualification American Express may, at its sole discretion, disqualify a team and/or any of the team members from participating if the team or any of the team members shows a disregard for these official rules, or acts in any unsporting or disruptive manner. American Express reserves the right to disqualify any team and/or any of the team members if the members intend to damage any case material or information. Confidentiality Obligation The data and material used in the Simulation game is proprietary information and should not be used for any purpose other than the analysis for the competition. Under no circumstances, should the content which is available to registered participants after log-in, be shared with any other entity. In the course of participating in the competition, the team members may have access to information and know-how of all kinds of American Express group. The team members will also have access to information concerning natural persons who are members of the companies referred above together hereinafter the "Information". The team members must take the necessary measures to keep the information strictly confidential, with the exception of information which is already in the public domain. 12-Mar-2016 AXP Internal Page 3 of 4 The team members acknowledge that disclosure of the information would cause the American Express Group considerable damage allowing the group to engage their liability. The confidentiality obligation will survive the termination of the competition, for whatever reason, until such time as the object of such obligation ceases to exist. Rights of Reproduction The Game is organized by American Express and is exclusively designed for an exchange with the student world. Any likeness and/or similarity between the projects presented by the students and any development of American Express products would be fortuitous. As the projects are built from American Express brief and ideas, and as similar development may be currently under progress, all concepts communicated by teams and team member during the competition cannot be considered as being able to give rise to any concrete development. In the event where the items submitted to American Express by candidates for Simulation Game competition in the context of their participation in the competition give rise to any intellectual property rights, the candidates will assign to American Express, which accepts, all rights of reproduction, representation, adaptation or translation attached to the items designs, slogans, models etc., on all support media including those which are unknown on the date of the Competition, for all purposes including commercial, promotional and advertising for the legal duration of the intellectual property right, with world-wide effect, without any limitation on number. The assignment of rights is granted and accepted without payment of any gratuities being due. By registering, the participants agree to grant to American Express the right to use and publish his or her name, portrait, picture for advertising and promotional purposes without additional consideration, world-wide and on the World Wide Web without limitation of time. American Express may also publish in any media any results of the competition for a reasonable duration. Miscellaneous American Express reserves the right to check the validity of the registration information at any stage during the Simulation Game competition and to ask for copies of ID documents and/or student cards from the school or university cited by the student. In the event of submission of incorrect or misleading information American express reserves the right to refuse and or disqualify participation. Teams will have no recourse against disqualification decisions. American Express reserves the right to shorten, modify, or cancel the competition. The Game, its concepts, content, look-and-feel, logo and all other graphic elements and organization are and will remain the sole property of American Express.
