Chronological Order
Review the Elements of Plot. Discuss how does a writer put a story in order? Relate to how they
decided to order their short story write on Friday in class.
Activity: Have students put song lyrics into order. They will be in groups, and have a set time period
to get them into order.
When they finish, have them discuss how they knew that order was correct without really hearing
and seeing the song or lyrics.
Retest WFA 1, those that passed the first time will have PAT Time.

1. Review “One of These Days” by Tim McGraw. What is the turning point in that song? What
about “Ol’ Red”? What is the difference between them?
2. “What’s in the bag? How do I know?” activity. Introduce the idea of inferencing, making
guesses based on evidence.
3. Journal: On another plot diagram, plot a time you bullied, were bullied, observed a bullying
incident. Make your climax a technical climax – what did you decide/realize? The falling
action and resolution should LOGICALLY result from that epiphany.

Homework: Ask students to raid a family member’s drawer, wallet, or purse. Bring items to share with class and
don’t tell class about the person. Class must form inferences based on text.
Reminder: 3rd and 7th periods are extended. Both classes will complete Wednesday and Thursday lessons.

Greatest by Kenny Rogers, One of These Days You’re Gonna Love Me by Tim McGraw, and Old Red by
Blake Shelton.
Formative Assessment: Do purse activity and have students form inferences.
