Discuss how does a writer put a story in order? Relate to how they decided to order their short story write on Friday in class. Activity: Have students put song lyrics into order. They will be in groups, and have a set time period to get them into order. When they finish, have them discuss how they knew that order was correct without really hearing and seeing the song or lyrics. Retest WFA 1, those that passed the first time will have PAT Time. Formative Assessment: Exit slip 1. What is another word for Chronological? Tuesday, 8/28 DLT: I can distinguish between a technical and dramatic climax in a story. I can draw inferences from a given text and support that inference with evidence. Review “One of These Days” by Tim McGraw. What is the turning point in that song? What about “Ol’ Red”? What is the difference between them? 2. “What’s in the bag? How do I know?” activity. Introduce the idea of inferencing, making guesses based on evidence. 3. Journal: On another plot diagram, plot a time you bullied, were bullied, observed a bullying incident. Make your climax a technical climax – what did you decide/realize? The falling action and resolution should LOGICALLY result from that epiphany. Formative Assessment: Exit slip Explain how you infer about people? Homework: Ask students to raid a family member’s drawer, wallet, or purse. Bring items to share with class and don’t tell class about the person. Class must form inferences based on text. Reminder: 3rd and 7th periods are extended.
