Sara Stinnett March 15th, 2015 Dear Dr. Phil Rash, I am writing in response to the Freshman Peer Mentor, Fall 2015 position that Ms. Linda Petersen mentioned was available at your location on Brigham Young University campus. At the tail-end of my freshman experience here at Brigham Young University, I had the opportunity to be on the receiving side of this freshmen peer mentoring this past fall and winter semester and due to such a positive experience, would love to be a part of your organization. Enclosed, you will find my resume showing my education, experience, and background along with a link to an online professional portfolio. During my freshman year, as a Family Life and Studies student, I have been able to take a wide variety of classes that includes GE classes as well as many that relate to my major and have taught my about the family. I have studied and been able to apply many concepts that have helped me to acquire a variety of skills essential for success in the position you are seeking to fill. My GE courses such as Music 101, American Heritage, and Sociology 111 have allowed me to grow an appreciation for a broad expanse of topics. With this newfound appreciation and knowledge, I am equipped to mentor incoming freshmen in the same courses that they will be enrolling in. My overall experience of starting out as a freshman on a college campus has been a learning experience on its own. Gaining essential skills such as time management, responsibility, and campus knowledge of resources readily available to students, I have been able to add to my repertoire of life skills that can be passed on to others. I have also had the experience of finding my passion and declaring a major. With this established, I have been able to enroll in courses that better qualify me in my pursuit of graduating as a Family Studies major and moving forward to graduate work for counseling and therapy- a valuable experience for myself personal that can then help me to know how best to help others in their pursuits. If you have additional questions, or would like to schedule an interview, please feel free to contact me at (XXX) XXX- XXXX or by email at XXXX.XXXXXXXXX@XXXXX.XXX. I look forward to speaking with you. Thank you for your time and consideration.
