Due Date Name Animal Kingdom Group Project For this project, your group will first investigate and gather information on the selected phylum and classes of the animal kingdom. Then as a group you will share your findings and then complete the kingdom chart in your notebook. Finally as a group you will create a 3-D mobile of the organisms found in the phylum and classes assigned. Each group member will be responsible for specific tasks during the project and grades will be based on individual contributions. There will be no group grade. Part I research topics: Each member of the group will be assigned one the following research topics. After taking notes on the topic you will share what you found with your group. Your group member will need to take notes on the information you present in their notebooks. Once everyone has presented their information you will need to complete the kingdom chart in your notebook. Topics to be researched: _______________________Body symmetry-Describe the three types of symmetry and draw diagrams _______________________Cnidarians- characteristics of the phylum, examples, habitat, nematocysts, the body plans, reproduction, movement, symmetry _______________________Porifera or sponges, characteristics of the phylum, examples, movement, habitat, how obtain food, reproduction, and symmetry _______________________Worms-the three phylums, Platyhelminthes, nematodes and annelids: identify examples of each phylum, body symmetry, habitats reproduction, annelid circulatory system and digestive system, importance of segmented worms _______________________Mollusks-characteristics of all mollusks share-radula gills, habitat, reproduction, examples of each of the classes-Gastropods, bivalves and cephalopods _______________________Arthropods-characteristics they all share, habitat, reproduction, body symmetry, exoskeleton, chitin, segmented body parts, appendages, molting, classes-crustaceans, arachnids, insects, metamorphosis-complete and incomplete, camouflage, benefits to humans _______________________Echinoderms-characteristics of phylum, habitat, body symmetry, type of skeleton, water vascular system, movement, regeneration, reproduction, examples of organisms. _______________________Chordate phylum-characteristics of the group, skeletons, notochord, vertebrate, invertebrate, endotherm, ectotherm, Class Fish-describe the three major groups of fish-cartilaginous, jawless and bony fish. Give examples of each and describe the differences between the three. Class Amphibians-describe the major characteristics of the group and give at least three examples. Class reptiles-describe skin covering and reproduction. Give five examples Class Aves or birds-characteristics of birds and give two examples Class Mammals-characteristics of mammals, three orders of mammals-monotremes, marsupials and placental mammals, describe each order and give two examples for each. Each group member will turn in a copy of their individual research. All members’ research needs to be stapled together with a cover sheet listing all the members of the group and their assigned section to research. Part II 3-D Mobile: Each group will need to create a 3-d mobile that includes a member from each of the phylum listed above-Cnidarian, Porifera, Platyhelminthes, Nematodes, Annelids, Mollusks, Arthropods, Echinoderm and Chordate. It will need to be creative, colorful and the organism model needs to be accurate. Pay attention to details, sloppy work will get a minimum grade. Grading rubric for project-Remember this is an individual grade 4 (Bonus) Research information Presentation of Research info 3-D mobile Information was thorough and went beyond what was asked 3 Information was thorough and included all highlighted topics listed. 2 Information was completed but not all highlighted topics were addressed Information Information was Information was typed with neatly hand was no spelling or written with no sometimes grammatical spelling or hard to read errors grammatical or it had errors. between 1-3 spelling or grammatical errors Organism for Organism for Organism for mobile was mobile was neatly mobile looks highly creative constructed and like it was put and neatly looks like thought together with constructed and effort went little effort or into the design thought 1 Information provided was not complete Information was not legible or there were more than three spelling or grammatical errors No organism was added to the group mobile. Overall grade will be out of 9 points. Column 4 points indicate that the student went way beyond what was expected.
