Medical Sciences Proof of Principle (MSc PoP) Program Proposal Questions PROGRAM OVERVIEW AND APPLICATION SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS PROJECT REVIEW & TIMELINE Please complete all the information in the Application Form ensuring: The proposal’s font and format are maintained The proposal is submitted via the OCE on-line application system and uploaded as an attachment (Word or PDF format accepted). To set up an account for the OCE on-line application system contact ApplicationSupport@oce-ontario.org. If you have an account use your existing username and password to access the application module. For MaRS Innovation Member Institutions the program is brought to you in partnership between OCE and MaRS Innovation. Applications will be submitted to Jackie Terry, Program Administrator at jterry@marsinnovation.com. MaRS Innovation will formally submit applications on behalf of their member institutions and the start-up companies through OCE's online application system. Commitment letter, which includes the amount of cash contributions, terms of providing the cash contributions and when the cash contributions will be provided to the project if approved for funding through the program (the letter should be provided on letterhead). Upon completion of the Application form please submit directly via the OCE on-line application system by the Application Submission Deadlines. Note – you will receive an auto-confirmation of receipt by the system within 24 hours of submission. If you do not receive confirmation of receipt within this time, please contact the Application Support Team at applicationsupport@oce-ontario.org Applications are internally reviewed for completeness, eligibility and use of funds prior to evaluation by expert reviewers with business and domain expertise. Upon review of your Application, OCE may request additional information or clarification to determine project eligibility. You will be notified via e-mail and asked to follow up accordingly. This documentation will be appended to the submission. The Expert Reviewers will assess the proposal and make a funding recommendation to OCE. Final funding decision is made by OCE. If yes, please list up to 10 of the most relevant patents Provide a short summary of what is needed to further develop the technology, including the competitive advantage of the technology in the particular sector/industry. B4: CHALLENGE AND MARKET OPPORTUNITY Briefly describe the market opportunity/challenge gap that your innovation will address and its magnitude Summarize market and customer research that you (or others) have conducted to validate the opportunity and total addressable market size Who are the paying customers and end user? Describe their need(s) and limitations of current solutions. What are the barriers that need to be overcome to bring the innovation to market? Describe how the technology addresses defined or emerging needs in existing, developing and/or entirely new markets Describe your knowledge of the current industry environment in relation to the technology or product, and if potential partners have been contacted. What is the likeliest route or scenario by which the technology can achieve commercial application? Describe the economic benefit to Ontario (e.g. jobs, revenue, etc.) Identify regulatory hurdles that must be addressed to bring the technology, product or service to market, if applicable and how they will be addressed. B6: PROJECT PLAN, BUDGET JUSTIFICATION AND TEAM Referring to the Activity Table and Budget completed on-line, address the following: Detail each project plan activity and expected outcome Identify key decision points and potential technical hurdles in the plan Provide budget justification of how to the OCE and Partner Contributions will support the successful completion of the project What is the amount and nature of the in-kind contributions (e.g. experimentation, design, travel, meetings, supervision, etc.?) Briefly summarize the further development of the technology required to commercialize the technology. Specify sources of additional funding required for the technology to be commercialized. 5
