CPM Geometry, Mrs. S. Kramer, room 208 WELCOME to the 2012-2013 school year! CONTACT MRS. KRAMER Voice-Mail: 412-4860 ext 43208 Planning : 1st Period Lunch: First Lunch E-mail: anytime, skramer@nthurston.k12.wa.us, with questions or concerns. (Please include your student’s in the subject line to avoid being “SPAMMED.” I try to respond within 24 hours, so if you’ve not heard back from me by the next day, please send another note, or leave a voice mail message.) CURRICULUM Geometry is a Standards Based class. By the end of the year, Geometry students will have studied these topics: 1) Conditionals & Transformations 6) Coordinate Geometry 11) Circles 2) Angle Relationships 7) Proofs & Quadrilaterals 3) Triangle Similarity 8) Polygons 4) Right Triangles, Trigonometry 9) 3-D Shapes 5) Triangle Congruency 10) Measurement MATH HELP For homework help, check the website, “cpm.org” to find hints and solutions to many book problems. Refer to notes or early work, text or call a classmate, or write the problem on the “Homework Question” whiteboard on the front wall of our classroom, to be sure your question gets answered. You can arrange one-on-one help with me, or get help from peer tutoring during the day, or our math lab at the THS library after school on Tues and Thurs. TOOLS/SUPPLIES Please use pencil or erasable blue/black ink to do all math work, in your graph paper notebook. (If you can’t find this notebook, get a regular notebook and loose graph paper.) ALL work is kept in your notebook. Notebooks are scored every few weeks for work completion. Homework quizzes will be given and notebooks can be used on these quizzes! You need a red or green pen, (not blue/black) to correct daily work, and a scientific calculator. Cell phones are not permitted as calculators. You can buy a scientific calculator from Mr. Dixon (room 327) for $10. IF YOU NEED HELP GETTING MATERIALS PLEASE SEE YOUR COUNSELOR OR THE SCHOOL NURSE. Both can help you get materials. ATTENDANCE Attending class is very important. If you miss class you miss something. Check the whiteboard or homework bulletin board at the back of class when you’re absent. Because notebooks are scored every 10-14 days, you usually have plenty of time to get work made up. Check with Mrs. K if you need extra time for some reason. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The remainder of this page is blank so you can remove and return the back section signed, and keep the rest of the information in a secure place. LEARNING ACTIVITY/PRACTICE As class begins, students start Early Work from the document camera on a paper that is turned in every Friday. Attempting each question and correcting them with the clas, using your colored pen, guarantees a good score on this “E Wk”, and provides reference problems and notes for later homework/practice. Daily class activities are listed weekly on the whiteboard, and all your class work and homework is done or added into your notebook. Show all work, (step-by-step, to show your thinking.) Homework practice is an important part of learning, If you do not practice new skills within 24 hours, you will forget 75% of it! Notebook checks are worth between 50-100 pts, and students get a list of work to be checked a couple days before it is due. Quizzes are usually given throughout a unit, after we’ve practiced the skill. These may, or may not, be announced. Occasionally, I will give a “homework quiz” where you can look at your homework to get the answer. These homework quizzes are to check that homework is being done timely and students are participating in correcting their work. Tests are the same for all Geometry classes in our district and cover the unit Standards.. You must meet the minimum standard of 70% to “pass a standard.” See me if you do not pass the standard test. You should plan on time outside of class to correct your errors on the test, and plan extra time to improve your test score. If you are absent for a test, you will be expected to take the test the day you return to class. Approved, pre-arranged absences can often get assignments prior to your absence. HELP/ASSISTANCE Get help right away! You will not know how to do everything in this class. If you did – you’re in the wrong class! Please ASK! Help options: cpm.org, for homework help, call/text a friend, arrange to see Mrs. Kramer, attend Math Lab Tues/Thurs after school or get a pass for Peer Tutoring help.
