Geometry Syllabus: Miss Hobbs
Course Description: Geometry uses both coordinates and transformations and gives
strong attention to measurement formulas and three-dimensional figures. Writing
proofs is preceded by the development of logic patterns.
Classroom Expectations:
 The classroom will be a positive learning environment filled with respect, effort,
and participation.
 Students start and end class in their seats.
 Students are to have the required daily materials out and ready to go by the start
of each class.
 Use the restroom and drinking fountain before coming to class. Students will be
allowed to sign out to the bathroom during work time. If you make a habit of
using the restroom during my class, restrictions may apply.
Technology:
 No cell from bell to bell
 It will not be seen. If it is, you will be told to put it away.
 The second time it happens, place it on my desk and get it at the end of class.
 The third time this happens, the phone is mine until the end of the day.
 You will not listen to music until work time.
 I should not hear your music.
 I should not see your music player, keep it under your desk.
 Absolutely no listening to music during tests or quizzes.
 Devices are to be used for certain activities
 If students are not on task with their devices, they will be asked to put it away
 If you don't follow these rules, you will have a 20 minute detention in study hall.
 If you don't follow these rules again, you will have a Saturday detention.
Attendance:
 4th tardy: Saturday detention
 The classroom is an interactive learning experience.
 Any time missed will affect your success.
 It is YOUR responsibility to make up any missed notes and work.
o Check my google website for completed smart board slides of the
lecture and print offs of the homework
Daily Materials:
 Spiral Notebook
 3 ring binder
 Pencils
 TI Scientific Calculator *
 Dry Erase Marker
 Protractor, Compass, Ruler (optional materials provided in class)
*If students are planning on going into either Advanced Algebra or Advanced Math and
Stats I next year, the AHS Math Department recommends students purchase the TINspire calculators. The TI-Nspire CX and the TI-Nspire CAS are two options, but the
CAS cannot be used on the ACT test. It would be a great benefit to become familiar
with the TI-Nspire calculators before using them heavily the following year.
Homework:
 Homework will be given daily and will be graded out of 5 points for completion
 Homework answers will be posted each night on our google site. This is to check
answers or to help work backwards.
 The homework is due at the START of class
 Work and answers are expected for each question to receive full points. I will
know if you just copied down the answers from the google site.
 Late homework is worth a maximum of 3 points and will not be accepted after
the chapter test
 If students have questions on the homework, they are responsible to find time
outside of class to come get help
Quizzes:
 Expect 1-2 quizzes per week
 If absent for quiz, you have to schedule time to take it in study hall before the
next test or it stays a zero
Tests:
 One at the end of each unit worth 100 points
 You have 3 days upon returning from an absence to make arrangements to make
up a test.
 Any missed test must be made up before the conclusion of the next chapter.
Test Retakes:
 Students can retake a test if they had all of their homework completed
BEFORE the test and complete test corrections on the original test
 The maximum score on a retake is a 79% and must be taken before one
week after the original test date
Participation:
 Students are expected to participate each day by working on the board, asking
questions, sharing answers, working in groups, and completing in class work
 Students will get one participation point per day
 Students can lose that participation point by being off task, using their cell
phone, sleeping, refusing to participate, etc.
 Students will be given one warning before they lose their participation point for
the day
 Participation points will be added to the gradebook weekly
Extra Credit:
 Extra credit may be given at various times throughout the semester
 Extra credit cannot increase a students’ grade by more than 1%
Cheating:
 Cheating will be handled harshly. Depending on the circumstances, students
could get a zero on any assignment or assessment and face administrative
discipline as stated in the Student Handbook.
Perseverance:
 Students will be presented with problems, activities, questions, projects, etc. that
are not going to be easy to solve or immediately obvious on how to approach.
 Part of this class will involve working through our struggles and not getting
immediate answers of “what to do”. This is to help students to develop critical
thinking strategies, intrinsic questioning, and self-reliance in difficult areas.
Additional Help:
 It is expected that you will need help from time to time
 Miss Hobbs’ prep periods: 4th in Room 304 or Teacher Cubicles and before or
after school
 Please email me when you want to meet because I am traveling between both
campuses 4th hour and coaching after school.
 SASS tutoring in the library
 NHS tutoring

Grading:
 Arrowhead has a “C or better” policy in its math department. In order for
students to proceed to the next course (Advanced Algebra or Advanced
Math and Stats I) they must attain a C- or better

This policy is an attempt to raise standards and give a better chance of success in
the next course.

Arrowhead policy states it DOES NOT use rounding to calculate grades.

Parents(s)/Guardian(s): I will be asking for your specific support in various capacities
throughout the time with your son/daughter. The most important way you can help is
to see that they are finishing their homework on time (check the skyward grade
program) and making up any missed quizzes or tests in a timely fashion. Make sure your
son/daughter is at school every single day possible. Make sure they have all required
materials. Please let me know if you ever have any questions or concerns! Email will be
the best way to get ahold of me.
I HAVE READ, UNDERSTOOD, AND ACCEPT THE POLICIES STATED ON THE
PREVIOUS PAGES. THIS PAGE IS DUE TOMORROW AND WILL COUNT AS A
HOMEWORK GRADE. THE OTHERS I WILL KEEP FOR MY OWN REFERENCE. I
UNDERSTAND THAT MY FAILURE TO TAKE CARE OF THIS IN A TIMELY FASHION
WILL RESULT IN A LOWERED GRADE.
