Respect People: Every student has the right to learn. The teacher has the right to teach. Every student has the right to personal space. Keep your hands, feet, and instruments to yourself. 2. Respect Property: Proper care of instruments and music provides time for more music instruction. 3. Respect time. We have a limited amount of time to learn and enjoy music. Make the most of this time everyday. 4. Have fun! Music and the ability to play an instrument can provide a lifetime hobby, vocation and friendships. Buljan Middle School utilizes Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS). CLASS PROCEDURES & EXPECTATIONS At the sound of the first bell, all students should be in their seat and all activity shall be directed to prepare for class. Students must be on time and come prepared to class every day. Students should have a pencil, paper and music section in their binder. Please use the restroom during breaks or lunch. If you need to use the restroom during class you must ask permission of the teacher. You must note the time you leave and the time you return on the classroom sign-in and sign-out sheet. Food, gum, and drinks (except for water) are prohibited in the music room. Students need to follow safety guidelines for all emergency exit procedures. This includes placing instrument as instructed by the teacher before exiting the classroom to avoid student injury. INSTRUMENTS All students are responsible for care of their school assigned instrument or providing their own instrument and necessary accessories. For school assigned instruments a donation would be appreciated to help cover purchase of ukuleles, books, strings and general maintenance costs. School-owned, as well as student-owned instruments must be kept in good playing condition at all times. You are personally held responsible for your instrument, whether school or privately owned. Please bring all instrument problems to the attention of the teacher immediately. Do not leave instruments unattended where they might be stolen or damaged. Keep the music room and instrument storage room neat and clean. Instruments must be in cases with the case closed and latched. DO NOT leave cases open or sitting out where they do not belong. Nametags must be visible on the outside of the case. Students will be expected to replace, or pay to repair; any part of a school instrument or book damaged by careless use or is deliberately defaced. CONCERTS & PERFORMANCES Class Recital – Thursday, November 12, 2015 during 5th period (in class). We will have a ukulele and world drumming class recital. Parents and guardians are invited to attend. GRADING It is extremely important for all students to be participating in class. Grades in Music Appreciation class will be determined using the following categories: o o 10% = Formative Grade - Weekly Assignment in class handout assignment) 90% = Summative Grade – Playing Tests and assessments (Check-offs, review of student notebook and folder) Class Participation (Effort, Preparation, Attitude & Discipline) BOOKS Essential Elements for Ukulele Method Book 1, Hal Leonard Corporation.
