GWSB-Approved Resume Review Instructions
A resume is a formal document that presents your relevant skills, experiences, and
accomplishments to a potential employer in order to demonstrate your fit for a specific position. It
illustrates your qualifications for the position by highlighting the skills you have developed and
results you have produced in your current and former roles, allowing the employer to determine
your potential for success within the organization.
As part of the BADM 1001 First Year Development Program (FYDP)/BADM 1001 Transfer
Student Development Course (TSDC), you will develop and produce a one page letter perfect,
properly formatted business resume that will give you a head start on your internship search.
Please note that creating a GWSB-Approved Resume frequently requires more than one editing
cycle between you and the resume reviewer. Below are the detailed instructions outlining the
resume review process that begins during the Summer and continues throughout the Fall semester.
Step 1 – Get a Head Start: Before the first day of FYDP/TSDC
[Week 1: August 31 – September 4]
Review the attached Undergraduate Resume Writing Guide to learn about the elements of an
effective resume. Create your resume by typing directly into the attached GWSB Resume
Template.
Helpful Tips:
 Review the “Guidelines for Writing an Outstanding Resume” in the Resume
Writing Guide (pp. 1-2) for additional formatting and content-related tips.
 Refer to the “Elements of a Resume” in the Resume Writing Guide (pp. 3-4) to
create each section of your resume.
Draft your resume bullet points using the Situation-Action-Result (SAR) Format.
Helpful Tips:
 Refer to the “Writing Accomplishment Statements” section in the Resume Writing
Guide (p. 2) for the detailed instructions.
 Use the “Questions to Ask Yourself When Crafting SAR Accomplishment
Statements” in the Resume Writing Guide (p. 4) to describe your experience.
 Review the attached “Freshman Resume Sample” for examples of strong resume
bullet points.
Step 2 – Due by Start of FYDP/TSDC Class
[Week 5: September 28 – October 2]
Bring a copy of your resume to class. During this class session, you will learn more about the ways
to create an outstanding resume that presents your background and qualifications in the best
possible way.
The following week [Week 6: October 5 – 9], you will bring three copies of your
GWSB-formatted resume draft to class. You will also have an opportunity to review your peers’
resume drafts and receive recommendations on how to enhance your resume.
Step 3 – Due by 9 AM Friday, October 16
Following the class session, make additional changes and upload your resume in Word format to
GWorkSB by October 16. Your resume will be reviewed by an F. David Fowler Career Coach,
and you will receive feedback via email no later than November 30.
Step 4 – Due by 9 AM Wednesday, December 2
Revise resume draft based on feedback and resubmit in Word format for final approval to
GWorkSB by December 2.
Step 5 – Due by 9 AM Monday, December 7
Resume uploaded and approved on GWorkSB. Now that you have an approved resume on
GWorkSB, you can apply to internships. Please note that your approved resume should never be
deleted from GWorkSB. Deletion of a resume will require you to have all new resumes approved
before you are allowed to apply to GWorkSB internship postings.
