Structures in BIHS

Biology, Freshman Literature, and Freshman

Why the International
Baccalaureate (IB) at BIHS?
 Holistic Approach: IB helps develop the intellectual,
personal, emotional and social skills to live, learn and
work in a rapidly globalizing world.
 Curriculum: Genuine awareness of the
interdependence of countries and peoples.
 Ability to see one’s own culture, language and nation
in a global perspective
 Ability to recognize and rejoice in diversity

Overview of IB Diploma Program in
BIHS
 Students begin participating in IB classes and requirements
beginning in the 11th grade and continuing through the 12th
grade.
 All BIHS students participate in certain aspects of the IB
Program. These include:
 IB English
 IB History
 TOK, (Theory of Knowledge)
 CAS, (Creativity, Action and Service)
 The EE, Extended Essay
 Students choose to take IB classes in other subject areas
 BIHS students may opt to not take IB exams, take IB Exams
for certificates in particular subject areas, or go for the IB
Diploma.
