December 2013 Crime Watch Agenda
Pledge of Allegiance
1.
Recruitment: Currently at 1074. We want to get to 1500. If you move out of the area or change email
addresses, please be sure to notify me so I can make the change.
2. Citizen Police Academy: Applications are available online for next year. I really want a class of 40-50 again
this year. If you think that the Academy is of interest to you, please get your application in now. You can
always say no later, but once the class is full I cannot add you. Please consider joining!
3. Burglary Update: Over the past 6 weeks, we have had 2 Burglaries, and an attempted burglary. All of the
burglaries were in the Stoltz, Plantation, Kings School Road area. We sent out a Swift Reach Message in that
specific area, as well as to Crime Watch Members. I also emailed Crime Watch members with the exact
message that was put out on Swift Reach. The suspect described in the emails has been arrested. However,
some important things came from this incident. Apparently, this suspect was in our area several times using
different types of lures. Carrying a pizza box, looking for a lost dog, and asking to shovel snow have all been
mentioned. A good rule to live by, if someone comes to your door who you clearly do not know, please give
us a call so we can check that person out. Burglars usually knock on doors to see if your home, if you are
they go to the next house. REPORT SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY, LET US CHECK IT OUT!
4. Traffic Violations: There appears to be an upswing on traffic violations as well as accidents. Please drive
safely and defensively. Drive in every neighborhood, as it is your neighborhood.
5. Unoccupied Homes: If you have any in your neighborhood, report any activity you might see around the
structure. Although we have not had too much of this, there have been thefts of copper from unoccupied
structures. Peter Township has had quite a few of these incidents.
6. We are in the midst of the Holiday season. Please understand that the holiday season is a very high crime
time of year, especially in the mall areas. There are people that prey on unsuspecting people. Learn to
watch your surroundings, and make small little adjustments to your attentiveness. Keep a keen eye while
out in public, and hang onto your possessions. Thefts and frauds spike at this time of year. If you are going
to donate funds, please make sure the charity you choose is legitimate.
7. Food Drive: The food drive will end December 18, 2013. There was two collection dates at Walmart/Giant
Eagle, Giant Eagle Market District and Shop N Save; Saturday December 7, and Saturday December 14. The
result from these collections was over 2 ½ Tons of food and $4875. Tomorrow, Wednesday 12/18 we will
be at the Brightwood Fire Station on Wednesday 12/18 from 8am- until finished, packing, sorting and
distributing the food collected. If you would like to help, please show up!.
8. The Adopt A Family Program is just about over. The goal was to help 50 families in Bethel Park and we will
be able to assist 45 or more. I want to thank everyone who assisted in this program and helped make a
difference for our neighbors.
9. Display a blue light this holiday season: A blue light in the window during the holidays is a symbol for
appreciation for the men and women who work as police officers, as well as remembering those who have
made the ultimate sacrifice protecting us. A simple blue Christmas light means a lot to all of Law
Enforcement.
10. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
