Automotive with Mr. Frost and Ms. Jimenez
The ACES automotive Department functions as a
professional Automotive Repair shop. Students were
introduced to a variety of Industry Practices. Students began
to develop portfolios which include reading assignments,
Industry Safety Rules and Regulations, Log Sheets, and task
sheets for specific repairs and procedures in the shop.
Automotive students collaborated on projects with other
teams and classes to enhance their professional growth and
networking skills. Our students have accomplished a lot this
first marking period and we look forward to a great year
ahead.
Physical Education with Mr. Weed and Mr. Wallace
It was a great start of the year in Physical Education
class! We started the year out with a flag football unit. We
were able to take advantage of the nice weather and
spend the majority of our classes outside during the unit.
After flag football, we transitioned to our yearly physical
fitness testing. Many students did wonderful in the different
aspects of the test, but all students should now know their
area of fitness that might need improvement. We finished
the marking period off with a unit on badminton. This was a
new unit to many of the students, but they swiftly learned the
tactics and skills of the sport. I look forward to another great
quarter.

take a stance, gather supporting evidence, present a counterargument, and write a conclusion. In
conjunction with this topic students have been learning a great deal about nutrition and starvation
as the Health aspect of this class. The Science Department has organized a field trip to the CT
Science Center, located in Hartford, which took place on Thursday, November 20th. The Connecticut
Science Center provides engaging ways for students to investigate science, technology,
engineering, and math (STEM), all within the Connecticut Science Framework standards. The Picture
of Health exhibit, where students will learn about the inner workings of the human body to discover
how much of human health and well-being is a matter of choice will be one of the main
attractions. The traveling exhibit, sponsored by Saint Francis Care, will allow students to gain an
understanding of the mysterious ways in which our bodies keep us healthy will be the other main
attraction. Students will have the opportunity to visit the rest of the museum as well. We look forward
to an exciting second quarter filled with learning through investigations, experiments, and the use of
technology. Please feel free to
contact us should you have any

Did you know that there are 15 Gold Card students at Whitney High North this marking
period?
Gold card students earn their way to the top by exhibiting positive and respectful behaviors.
As a result they are given privileges that other students have not yet earned. This year they
have been treated to three special outings, such as apple picking and bowling. Also, these
students have been given WHN water bottles to carry throughout the school and on trips.
Keep up the Outstanding Work!
Did you know that approximately 20 of our students are actively working in the community
while earning their high school diploma?
These students have an opportunity to learn real world skills and a paycheck! Some of the
job sites include; Town Fair Tire, TJ MAXX, YMCA and the JCC, as well as other placements
within other ACES schools and facilities.
