Applications Apply as soon as possible Apply to at least two colleges Be prepared for the interview! CAREERS ADVICE a.horn@testwood.hants.sch.uk What’s on a reference? Super-curricular! Being Positive O Think Positive: I can, I am, I do, I will… O Act Positive: I feel terrific O Question Positive: What can I learn from this? O Remain Positive: Get support and reward yourself! Revision Don't leave your revision until the last minute. If you haven't already, start revising now. Be selfish! Revise with the exam in mind! Make sure you know what to expect in the exam: How many papers will I take? How many questions should I answer? How long is the exam? Understand marking criteria! Revision Timetable O These are essential: O Avoid rushing O Self –discipline O Share revision time between subjects O Keep up to date with revision O Get right balance between revision and leisure time What to do: O Establish what bite size chunks you need to O O O O O revise for each subject Put them onto a timetable Aim for 1-3 hours per day (break into manageable chunks) Stick to it! Prepare revision cards (if helpful!) Don’t forget to reward yourself! Active revision means… O Mind maps O Writing notes O Reading notes aloud O Recording key points on an iPod O Discussing topics with friends O Getting others to test you O Use revision websites O Trying past papers Mind maps O Post-its Revision Cards The best revision methods involve being active! So don’t just sit thereDO SOMETHING! A sample one Revision Success 1 O Revision timetable: Draw up a revision timetable - it's crucial. It should be realistic, cover all subjects and allow you time off to relax Revision Success 2 O Make notes: Don't just read through your class work, make notes. One useful tip is to gradually condense your notes so they fit on the back of a postcard. Revision Success 3 O Revision guides: Get a recommendation from your teacher as to which are most useful and then make sure you use them! Revision Success 4 O Questions and answers: Write out some questions and answers to see how much you're actually remembering Revision Success 5 O Listen in: Read your notes onto a cassette and then play them walking down the street or whilst you're in bed. Revision Success 6 O Prompts: Put key words and phrases on sticky notes around the house, so you'll see them often Revision Success 7 O Seek help!: Don't go it alone. They say a problem shared is a problem halved. So, get friends and family on board to help you revise. Revision Success 8 O Past papers: Make sure you get hold of some past papers, they're a really good way of knowing what to expect in the exam. Revision Success 9 O Relax: If you panic you're lost! The exams are going to happen so you might as well give yourself the best chance of doing well by starting to revise early and keeping calm. Revision Success 10 O Be positive! IT CAN BE DONE….
