Mar. 3rd, 2002 -3- JOURNALIST STATEMENTS RENATO MOTHA AND PATRÍIA LOBATO had already produced a wonderful CD with poems of Fernando Pessoa in songs and sambas composed by Motha, perfect integration of music and lyrics, which is rarely happen, there's always a stretch. Now they return with a beautiful CD in tribute to Guimarães Rosa (brasilian writer), the album is called Rosas para João, is beautiful, delicate and refined from start to finish. Nelson Motta – Sintonia fina # 263 - Outubro/2010 " Rosas para João", the best album of the year. A CD dedicated and inspired by the work of Guimarães Rosa. What is a master of writing, had the luck and happiness to fall into the hands of a new master of Brazilian song: RENATO MOTHA from Minas Gerais, enjoyed by a select troupe of Brazilian and international fans. Renato wove the thread of songs as one who makes delicates, but encrusted with jewels and rich in detail and textures. Voices (his and his companion PATRÍCIA LOBATO) accompanied by an acoustic instrumentation captured with care, made this his last work a single time. Luiz Lins - music critic Cultura Campinas, 25/11/2008 A gladsome surprise from an album that had all to go wrong and worked very well. It is a poems selection, all of them very good, for sure, from no one less than Fernando Pessoa and his heteronyms. Poem set as music works always wrong, or almost, basicaly because it had not been wrote for that, it had been crafted to be read and not sung, so it sounds a bit constrained, everyone feel that it is a poem musically arranged. But not with that excellent CD werein Renato Motha and Patricia Lobato, from Minas Gerais, transformed such marvelous poems by Fernando Pessoa in Sambas and Songs. Best of all, they had done a superior style exercise, above all on the “Estou tonto” samba, that could be assigned to Chico Buarque, for its high level lyrics and musical phrasing, so integrated you can swear that music and lyrics were done at the same time by same person, in this case, Fernando Pessoa. Nelson Motta (writer, composer and musical producer) “Jornal do Brasil” newspaper, Rio de Janeiro/RJ and “Sintonia Fina” website Jun 2005 Songs from the poet (eternal-actual) – Set in music sensations translated in the poetry form by a multifaced artist like Fernando Pessoa (and his heteronyms), was a godsend to Renato Motha and Patricia Lobato. It is terrific how the pre-nuclear era from the Portuguese Fernando Pessoa works perfectly with the delicate post-bossanova music from the Minas Gerais couple. Hélio Franco - music critic “Correio Brasiliense” newspaper – May 27, 2004 The art Patricia’s arranjed majority, process. of divulge poetry by music – The perfect match between Motha and voices is an asset of “Dois em Pessoa”. Well recorded, well sung and and delicate in themes choice. The album has touching songs, in the they flow naturally over the poems like they had experienced the inverse Lauro Lisboa Garcia - music critic “O Estado de S.Paulo” newspaper. São Paulo/SP – Jul., 12, 2004 PATRICIA LOBATO AND RENATO MOTHA are one of the most beautiful voices of the new generation, they’re a couple which is already adored in Minas Gerais (their state -4- in Brazil) and is being recognized and admired throughout Brazil. Their vocal blending is perfect, of rare and precious harmony. Mauro Dias - music critic “O Estado de S.Paulo” newspaper. São Paulo/SP – Oct. 19, 2001 The singer, acoustic (and electronic) guitar player and arranger RENATO MOTHA is a very rare case in Minas Gerais. These three functions appear in RENATO to create a complete artist, which performs as composer and builds the bridge between the classics like Tom Jobim and Edu Lobo, as well as the Minas Gerais’ school of elaborated harmonies and well constructed melodies.
