JOB DESCRIPTION CLASSIFIED DISTRICT DATA AND TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT SPECIALIST Page 1 of 2 CARMEL UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION: DISTRICT DATA AND TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT SPECIALIST RANGE: 21 A. PRIMARY FUNCTION Under the general supervision of the Director of Technology and Data Services, work as a member of Carmel Unified School District’s Technology and Data Services Department to maintain, improve, and refine district’s data and storage management systems. Organize and provide oversight of site technology aides to ensure timely response for client based technology. Perform complex, technical troubleshooting for client system hardware, software, servers, remote and wireless access. Work closely with vendors, technical and administrative personnel, acting as technical lead in assigned IT related projects including evaluating, testing and recommending new software and technologyrelated procedures and policies. Stay abreast of developments in the field and be adaptive to meet the growing needs of information technology in the educational environment in areas such as data systems, internet, voice, video, and multimedia. B. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Duties may include, but are not limited to: 1. Provide leadership, training and oversight for site technology assistants by monitoring help desk trouble ticket system; provide second-level on site and remote support for computers, printers, servers and other hardware; assist site technology assistants in installing and configuring new computers and peripherals; provide input to Director of Technology regarding supervision of technology assistants; and organize staff assignments to meet project needs. 2. Administer a variety of database systems; audit data integrity and manage hand editing and bulk import and export of data to multiple systems and servers. Provide support and troubleshooting for data entry by district and site personnel. Implement and monitor data replication between SQL and hosted servers. Work with vendors to design and implement database adaptations and reporting procedures. 3. Manage user account security access and roles for systems such as Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange mail database, Cisco Unity call manager, student information system accounts, and parental notification system. 4. Implement, monitor and test district data backup and recovery procedures. 5. Assist in setting district hardware and software standards. Participate in researching, testing, evaluating and recommending specifications for computer and network hardware and software purchases. Review purchase requisitions involving technology. Manage project deployments. 6. Represent the District at county agency meetings pertaining to assigned duties. 7. Provide first-level technical support help desk trouble tickets from District Office staff. 8. Provide training for technical staff regarding the operations and troubleshooting of district hardware and software. 9. QUALIFICATIONS 1. Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described. 2. Experience with Windows and SQL Server management including Windows Backup and Restore or similar backup utility and best practice procedures. 3. In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access, SQL and other databases used for student information, human resources, assessment, facilities maintenance, transportation, business services, food services, and other district functions. 4. Knowledge of Symantec Ghost or similar computer imaging utilities. 5. Proficiency in LAN management and client level hardware and software troubleshooting for Windows operating systems. Ability to install and configure workstations and peripherals including printers, projectors and interactive white boards. 6. Experience supervising client level support structure including the ability to plan, schedule and provide leadership to site technology support staff. 7. Knowledge of Macintosh and Linux operating systems desired. 8. Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, VoIP, and LDAP desired. 9. Excellent organizational and communication skills, including English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. 10. Ability to pass District administered math, word processing and spreadsheet competency tests. 11. Ability to work as a team member and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties. 12. Possession of a valid driver’s license and automobile. D. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Incorporated within one or more of the essential functions of this position are the following essential physical requirements: 1. Ability to see for purposes of reading instructions, labels and other printed matter and for the safe operation of equipment. 2. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels in person and/or on the telephone. 3. Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation in person and/or on the telephone. 4. Ability to operate computer, printer, copy machine, telephone and other office equipment with dexterity and in a safe and efficient manner. 5. Ability to routinely lift/carry office supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. 6. Ability to lift arms overhead to reach and place equipment. E. WORKING CONDITIONS Office working environment subject to sitting at a desk for long periods of time, reaching in all directions and working at a computer and/or telephone for prolonged periods of time. Requires occasional work on weekends and at night in order to do emergency work and to complete regular maintenance and upgrades while district data systems are not in use. Approved 6/25/12
