remaining members of the Committee may appoint another member of the Church to fill the vacancy until the next

Sunday 1:30 pm
Tai Wai Cell Group
Matthew Peacock
We continue to meet and worship God. We are a compact group with about ten members, and many of us are
young people. We meet in Tai Wai every Sunday afternoon at 1.30 PM. Every week we pray, study the bible,
and talk about what it means for our lives. We want to know God better and study His word, and we want to
support, help and equip each other.
Friday 8:00 pm
Lacosta, Ma On Shan Cell Group
Siew Yoong Hing
The cell group has over 20 persons including children, meeting on most Fridays. The members are essentially
the same as the year before, with one addition.
For Word sessions, we covered the bible study guide, ‘12 Steps With Jesus’, before moving on to a series of
audio drama and video talks from John Bevere’s book, ‘Driven by Eternity’.
Members are much helped through the network of prayer support and encouragement. Two members shared
their testimonies of spiritual growth and victory on Friendship Sundays. Occasionally we were blessed by
visiting speakers with touching testimonies. Highlights include a quarterly BBQ/group dinner, and a
Christmas outreach party in December attended by an enthusiastic crowd of 70 people.
We pray for continued sharing of the good news with the seekers in our circle of friends. We are seeking the
Lord’s direction for the group, especially for a new leader to lead the group.
Monday 8:00 pm
Monte Vista, Ladies Bible Study Group
Janet Hauser
The Ladies Bible study group is regularly attended by about 10 ladies with numbers sometimes reaching 14.
Most of the women are regular attendees of Shatin Anglican church. There are a few women who come, but
attend other church services throughout Hong Kong.
The main purpose of the group is to study the Bible, pray and have fellowship with one another.
This year, the women have been studying the book of James and have been praying to grow in maturity and
wisdom through the teachings in this book.
Over the past 3 years we have studied:
- Balanced Living-Gospel Light/Focus on the Family
- Wisdom for Today’s Woman-Insights from Esther-Fisherman Bible Studies
- Women of Worth-Gospel Light/Focus on the Family
- 6 Essentials of Spiritual Authenticity-Navpress –Kent and Lee-Thorp
Our next study will be a departure from a topical study or a book of the Bible. We have decided to read the
book Captivating : Unveiling the mystery of a Woman’s Soul by Eldredge and discuss the readings. It’s an
important and enlightening discourse about the heart of a woman as God sees it and created it to be.
We have rejoiced with one another over answered prayer and have witnessed God’s presence in our daily
lives.
My prayer for the group since it’s inception has been to have God “revive our hearts according to His Word”
( Ps. 119) and He faithfully does that each week as we study.
Monday 8:00 pm
Monte Vista, Men’s Group
Brent Hauser
In May 2007 the men’s group finished the first year of the Authentic Manhood Curriculum entitled “The
Quest for Authentic Manhood”. This 24 session series attempted to answer questions like: What makes a man
a man, a real man? How does one become a man? What holds back a man from their true masculine destiny?
How should authentic manhood express itself today? Men were encouraged to develop a written manhood
plan to address those areas of their lives that God was showing them need for change. There was a regular
attendance of 8-10 men with a number of young men joining us for the second half of the program.
In October 2007 the men started the second year of the Authentic Manhood Curriculum entitled “Winning at
Work and Home”. This 16 session series emphasizes work and home and the biblical role men have in these
two significant areas of men’s lives. Concrete application projects are a part of this course (projects such as
directed discussion with your wife, daughter and son). Men will complete a chart outlining 10 key moves that
Page 6 of 23
Shatin Anglican Church
Annual Report 2007
they will do in order to apply what have/are learning. This series will be completed by the end of April 2008.
There is a regular attendance to these sessions of 14-16 men.
I have been impressed with the men’s desire to honour God in their home and at work. My prayer is that we
will continue to encourage one another in the pursuit of Godly manhood. That we may step closer to being the
men that our family, that our community, that our world needs.

Christine Islip
As I look back in my prayer book, as always, I see that over the last year there is so much to give thanks and
praise for. Relationships have been restored, depression has been lifted, attitudes have been changed and after
months of not having a Pastor, the Lord brought Pastor Dale and Pat Hanson to us. No sooner had the
Hansons arrived, we were delighted to have Pat join our meetings. Though we're only a small group we can
each see the ongoing need to cover the church in prayer and as you have already read above, prayer works in
wonderful ways so please do send through your prayer requests to islip@netvigator.com , phone me on
26024858 or 61121765 or see me, Pat or Young Peacock at church.
PHILIPPINES FELLOWSHIP ZONE
PF Leaders
We grown last year, so we multiplied in three cell groups, after that we decreased and there is a great
challenges for us but God is good, in His presence and faithfulness He strengthen our group, it sad to say that
some of us changed directions, they went back to their first church, 2 of them decided to went back in the
Phils for their own good.
We met 2 foll. Sundays in the school and every last Sunday we went to Maranatha, as we did before, we had
4’W “Welcome, Worship, Works & Words”, when it comes to sharing and praying, the Lord always answers
our prayer request in His time and perfect will, we’ve been experienced these: healing, restoration, miracles,
He’s been our Jehovah Jireh even in difficult times. We gave Him thanks for His great provision and
goodness to us, a big thanks for all the speakers that He sent to us. During statutory holidays, we had outing
(Sai Kung), hiking (Lion Rock Mt) and farewell party in (Do Fong Shan), and seminars.
God is great, he brought 13 special persons in our Christmas outreach, they are from Peacock’s cell group, we
heard amazing testimony and message from our beloved new pastor, thanks for joining us for all who came, at
that time.
Please include our groups in your prayers, that the Lord grant our desires to grow more in His knowledge, and
we will become compassionate followers.
Thank you also; Matthew & Young’s guidance.
YOUNG ADULT ZONE
Oasis
Thelema Rigodon
Oasis is the young adults group of Shatin Church comprising members aged 18-31
who come together every Wednesday night to worship God, to seek Him and His will by studying His Word
and praying together, and to be an encouragement to each other. Its vision is to be a godly influence to its
home church and community by being passionate worshippers, preachers of the gospel and prayerful believers.
This small group of young adults had come out of its shell last year, after a sudden change of leadership
following its first-ever camp in April, when it stepped forward to host the Friendship Sunday service of the
church in November. Despite a rough summer, Oasis clung to God and pushed ahead to make preparations for
the evangelistic service, which shared the gospel in various forms: music, dance, drama and testimonies. This
experience united and strengthened the group and gave it confidence to step out of its comfort zone more and
reach out in love to those who do know Him and to those who do not yet know Him. The first outreach which
this molding experience led to took place last Christmas when the group visited the residents of Home of
Loving Faithfulness (HOLF) with whom they shared the same dance and drama they did on Friendship
Sunday the month before. The next one was more recently, on Valentine’s Day, when Oasis mustered up
courage to hand out packets of chocolates, which they packed themselves, to passers-by in Shatin and invite
them to church.
God has been gracious to Oasis in the past year and has sustained it through a trying season of transition and
farewells to a number of friends that include faithful members, such as Andrew C. and Grace K. As Oasis
continues to strive to live out its vision in the months and years to come, may its church family upheld it in
Page 7 of 23
Shatin Anglican Church

prayer, so that it may see growth and, in faith, go from strength to strength under God’s protection and
guidance.
OASIS BAND
This year Oasis decided to simplify their program, seeking vision, and concentrating on being togeher. The
direction of the band followed this, with us simplifying to mainly acoustic worship and concentrating on what
worship really is.
YOUTH ZONE
Solid Rock
Janakan Arulkumarasan
Solid Rock had an exciting year in 2007. We started the year well running off the back of the last (very
entertaining) Youth Camp, and had a few larger scale outreaches, including an icecream outreach (featuring
two six foot banana splits), and a water balloon fight, accompanied by evangelistic talks.
In July, a group of the youth (accompanied by lots of leaders and young adults) had a fulfilling experience in
the Lawas' home town of Duncalan (Philippines), where they hung out with, and outreached to local youth,
and helped to build a library.
We were very sad in September to say goodbye to a number of the older youth as they left for university, as
well as leaders like Andrew Cope who were an immeasurable asset to the group, and Vanaja who stepped
down from weekly leadership to focus on Alpha and other commitments.
We are grateful that God has given us new youth as the older ones went to college overseas, although most of
our new members are already Christians, so please pray for more youth from secular backgrounds (especially
Shatin College!), with whom we can share the gospel.
Our primary theme last year was relationships; this year we have just finished a series on "Judges", and are
looking forward to exploring themes about identity, worship, and yet more relationships (especially with
parents)!
Some special thank-yous (in no particular order):
* All the youth leaders for their faithful time and efforts
* Peter Fung for driving the bus whenever he can
* The church for prayers and support (especially money for junk food, without which Solid Rock wouldn't
survive)
* Joyce who is always helpful in sorting out our bus crises even when we're disorganized and/or the buses
don't turn up!
* Pastor Dale for his wise advice during difficult episodes!
* Aunty Evelyn for planning the mission trip and making us lots of food
* Warren & Christine Islip who supported us when we didn’t have a pastor, and brought us tasty fruits.
* Anyone else I’ve forgotten
CHILDREN’S ZONE
Kingdom Kids
If you had a group of 3 to 11 year olds, what would you do with them?
Evelyn Yan
In Shatin Church, we run the Kingdom Kids’ programme for children aged 3 to 11. Each Sunday, the
children worship with the whole Church before going to their own programme. Lessons are held for all the
children on the second and fourth Sundays of the month with small group follow-ups on the first and third
Sundays. The children are assigned to small groups, depending on their ages, with 2 leaders to a group. It is
an ongoing challenge to identify and impart the core points of our faith in 45 minutes or less each Sunday
from September to June each year.
Last year’s topic on Prayer finished in June 2007 and it seemed that God was calling us to learn who He was
and to come closer to Him. During the summer when the Kingdom Kids leaders took a break, various brave
individuals and groups led lessons on the Names of God to let the children know more about the God they
pray to and worship.
Shatin Anglican Church
Annual Report 2007
We started “Living a life of Worship” in September 2007. We are learning that worship is a continual
surrender of ourselves to God in loving, praying and serving. The Kingdom Kids team designed the lessons
with the aim of helping the children to know more about Jesus and to draw closer to God with practical living.
We have recently begun to roster parents to help us on large group Sundays so they can get to better know the
kids and what they do.
Highlights, achievements and plans include:
- 2007 summer programme on the Names of God.
- Two prayer walks since September 2007 in the neighbourhood. The kids prayed for the community as
they went around and handed out gospel tracts in Chinese and English.
- Nativity presentation for Christmas.
- Learning to pray out loud.
- Learning to worship and being part of Sunday service.
- Currently planning an outreach with the Revelation Warriors and Solid Rockers for Friendship Sunday on
March 16th. Please hold this event in your prayers.
- A further prayer walk in a few months’ time.
- Learn how to share the good news by the end of June 2008.
The way the children’s leaders have responded in prayer, preparing the lessons and worshipping in their own
lives is a testimony to God’s faithfulness; our faith grows and our talents multiply even as we give and share
what little we have. It is most exciting and rewarding to see how the Holy Sprit works. The children grow
slowly but surely in living their lives in God and we pray that they will continue to grow into branches
bearing much fruit on the vine that is Jesus.
Not to us, O Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness. (Psalm
115:1)

Rainbow
It's indeed a privilege to lead the Rainbow kids and also a
reminder to me"If we don't turn into children, we will not enter
the Kingdom of heaven." For the small group we use "My Great
Big God" published by Gospel Light. It's really a blessing to
us. We have bible story, games, art, worship and prayer. It all
requires a lot of involvement and prayer. We still need more
parents to join us, to lead children to know God, to love Him and
to serve Him.

CHILDREN’S ZONE
FROG
Thelema Rigodon & Rebecca Tang
Throughout this year we have really enjoyed spending time with
FROG Kids on Sunday mornings as we learned passages from
Scriptures by heart, sang praises to God, went on prayer walks
and played fun games together. They are a wonderful, smart
bunch of kids who are receptive and responsive to the lessons
about worship that we have been teaching them--and learning to
apply in our everyday lives ourselves. We pray that in the
coming years, the kids would grow deeper in love with Jesus and
welcome more new Christians as we did with one girl this year.
CHILDREN’S ZONE
Crown Jewels
Edith Fung & Evelyn Yan
We would like to take this opportunity to thank
God for the privilege to be a part of the Kingdom
kid’s ministry.
It is a great joy to see the children grow in the
knowledge of knowing the word of God.
We have been learning about ‘Worship’ through
this topic and the children have gained an
understanding as to how to worship and the real
meaning of ‘worship’.
We have also been encouraging the children to do some simple home work such as being helpful at home and
at school, being kind and considerate towards others and also praying and praising God.
Most children are becoming confident in sharing and praying aloud in a small group. As we continue to teach
and nurture the spiritual lives of these little ones, we are confident that God is going to use these children to
glorify his name.
All Glory and honour be to our almighty God.
CHILDREN’S ZONE
Life Savers
Misha Del Favero & Evelyn Lawas
The Life Savers (age 8 to 10) have grown tremendously this year! I feel like we’ve reached a whole new
level! For starters, they were much more confident in handing out tracts on the prayer walk in December and
were really excited about it too, which is always a good thing! One week, all of them willingly prayed in our
group prayer time – an amazing blessing, praise God! But one of the biggest highlights for me personally was
a talk we had about struggles in prayer and reading the Bible.
Shatin Anglican Church
Annual Report 2007
We’d just studied the story of Joshua and Jericho,
and I asked them if they ever felt like they were
walking around a wall sometimes when they
prayed or read the Bible. Do they ever feel like
they’re just going in circles and getting no clear
results? I was surprised and deeply moved when
all of them said, “Yes!” We’ve all felt at times
like we’re walking around a wall aimlessly,
achieving nothing much, trying to connect with
God but not knowing how… feeling like we’re
“reaching for the invisible God.” And they
understood what I was talking about! They could
relate! To me, that was just amazing! I felt like we’d connected at a whole new level!
So, that was definitely one of the highlights for me. And something to take away is, as we discussed: Even
though it may feel like we’re walking around a wall sometimes, we just have to press on, keep doing what
God calls us to do, and in the end – the walls WILL tumble! We WILL achieve victory! We would really
appreciate prayer for that – that each of us – kids and leaders – could learn to press on and keep going so that
victory will be achieved! Praise God!
CHILDREN’S ZONE
Lambs of God
Linda Tse & Tracy Leong
The Lambs of God minister to children aged 8 to 11 during small
group time. We average about 4 to 6 each week and the kids
continue to delight us with their artistic abilities and cheery,
generous nature.
As we engage our kids around the theme “Living a Life of
Worship” since last October, we see them growing subtly in their
spiritual walk with Christ. During small group time, they put
forward to us questions concerning the holy spirits and specific
prayer requests which they seldom did in the past. In December,
our kids went on a prayer walk to reach out to the neighborhood. Our children not only make Christmas cards
to be given out to strangers but also challenge themselves to take a bold step in speaking to them.
Looking forward, it is our desire to see parents connecting with their children in spiritual nurturing and be
part of the bigger context of ministry to children. Please pray God’s will be done in us, and through us.

Overcomers
Jane Lau & Wendy Blackmur
The Overcomers rejoice over the past eventful year. Having applied
ourselves to prayer for a new pastor, it was faith-building and a great joy
to welcome Pastor Dale Hansen into the church family. Currently
embracing the theme of “Living a Life of Worship”, the Overcomers are
enjoying discovering the many aspects of worship. The Christmas
Prayer walk was a highlight of the past year. There we combined
loving creativity, being relational and sharing Jesus all in the one
exercise!
The Overcomers are missing the
services of Brenda Tse who has
recently stepped down. We solicit
your prayers for more teachers and
more kids in our children’s ministry
and also ‘more love, more power and
Him in our lives’!

Public Address Team

Sha Tin Church has a long tradition in worship using music, singing, poetry, drama and dance. The P A team
supports these various modes of worship by providing audio facilities to enable and enhance worship and
other ministries. We are all volunteers and we have various levels of skill and competence. Our role has
continued in providing a Public Address (P A) System for our Sunday morning service in the hall, but also to
the children's ministry "Kingdom Kids", the Youth Ministry "Solid Rock" held at Maranatha House, special
events such as our annual church camp, and occasional cell-group meetings.
This year, we undertook two special outreach concerts within the tallest building in Hong Kong, the IFC 2
office building. The first of these was in June 2007, the second in December. Both of these were in response
to special requests from office workers in the building. These were two major events for the combined Music
team and P A Team, and although it was a lot of effort by all team members, we experienced the joy of the
presence of the Lord as witnessed by ourselves as well as some of the congregation.
In this past year we have again both lost and gained team members, as people come and go in this transitional
congregation. In response to requests and prayer, several new members have joined and they are all learning
the important skills of setting up the systems and mixing through on-the-job training. I thank God for their
commitment and dedication to the challenge of providing high quality sound reinforcement to our various
church ministries.
I would welcome anyone who has a heart for the Lord, an ear for music, or audio/electronic technical skills to
join with us.

Sermon Recording Ministry
Paul Fox
Our use of cassette tapes for recording has now been discontinued, having been superceded by more recent
technology. Thus, since a few months we record the Sunday morning service sermons and worship using a
notebook computer. The file created is later uploaded to the Church website within a few days, and is
available for those people who cannot attend the whole service. The ministry is run together with the sound
mixing at the desk at the back of the hall, by the PA Team.
I thank the Lord for the dedication of a small group of individuals who regularly undertake this important
ministry and ensure that the sermons are available to those who may need them from our church website.

Tambourine Dance Ministry
Emie Hutton
Just as this past year was a time of transition for the church it was similarly so for the Tambourine Dance
Ministry. We said goodbye to some who returned permanently to the Philippines and others who found new
fellowships. The core group who take part in regular worship dance has been reduced to five faithful
members. Thankfully we missed few Sundays, and then more due to lack of confidence and a leading dancer
than lack of desire to serve.
As the leader of the dance ministry I danced little during the year due to the birth of our third son, Daniel. It
seems I will be dancing little this year also due to the impending arrival of our fourth child. Please pray for
the other members of the team that they would be able to rise to the challenge caused by my further absence.
The highlight of our year was to present a flag dance in June to the song, “The Colours of Salvation,” a Jim
Bailey song, not the least as several ladies who are normally too shy to take the stage to dance with
tambourine were able to take part.

Video Ministry
Edwin Cho
The Video Ministry of STC was set up in 2004 with a mission to praise God and spread His gospels through
audio visual means. It is also an instrument to record the church’s activities as much as possible for archive
purposes. The congregation can make use of this archive to revisit memorable moments of their worship to
God as well as happy moments among ourselves.
In the past year, the Video Ministry had produced the following videos (production dates at end) –
1. OASIS Young Adults Camp 2007 promotional video, March 2007,
2. OASIS Young Adults Camp DVD on Psalm 45, April 2007,
3. Shatin Church Family Service, April 2007,
4. Solid Rock XTC on Christ, May 2007,
5. ShowAid by Solid Rock, August 2007 (special thanks to Keziah Law for the production and everything),
6. Shatin Church Family Camp, November 2007,
7. Young Adults Friendship Sunday, November 2007
8. Solid Rock Friendship Sunday, December 2007,
9. Christmas Outreach Concert at Two IFC, December 2007,
Through the videos, we can see upcoming talents to explore and express ways to send the good news to nonbelievers and believers. This is encouraging even though the staff strength of the Ministry is barely minimal.
After the outreach concert project, it struck my mind that there may be an avenue on our church website for
members of this church to see all the videos that the Ministry had taken on STC since 1995. We are working
in that direction and the matter has been brought up to the Church Committee to determine the way forward.
There may be some technical issues involved but I firmly believe that God will show us the way and
graciously grant us the wisdom to resolve them.

This year the Church
website has become a more
useful place for church
members. It has become a
regularly updated place for
news, with this function
being transferred to the
church secretary, so that it
is more regularly updated,
and kept inline with other
regular Church processes
like the production of the

The
Church website has also
become the main place to
find sermons and teachings.
This year we have worked
on
developing
both
downloads and a podcast of
the sermons each week, and
the ministry has become
greatly blessed by havin
Keziah Law able to record, edit and upload the sermons, leading to higher quality recordings than we
have had in the past. While the church provides information about small groups and directions to the
church, we would like to provide a more useful site for visitors and newcomers to the church,
including improvements to the design and layout, and more information about what it means to
following Jesus.

Youth Band
James Low
The Youth Band has stayed an integral part of life at Solid Rock, teaching the youth about worship and God,
and giving opportunities for the youth to serve God and each other as they play and sing. This year there were
a higher than average number of youth that left Solid Rock due to leaving school or Hong Kong. This was
also reflected in the youth band, and we would like to thank Gavin Gwok, Joseph Rigodon and Jeff Islip in
particular for their dedicated service over the years. We have however also been blessed with many new
talented members including Ben Chui, Rhoda Chan, Isaac Keelty and Leonie Lee, and Lydia Tang stepping
up from singing to song leading that will strengthen and continue the worship music that is so much a part of
Solid Rock life. Highlights from last year included the youth band leading worship at Youth Sunday and to
the inter-denominational outreach during the Philippines mission trip last summer. For the future we would
like to continue to build the musicans and singers, and as well as start to focus on training people at PA and
mixing.

Alpha Course
Vanaja Jesudian
The last Sha Tin Church Alpha course started on April 1st (no, it wasn't an April Fool's joke!) and went on till
mid-June 2007 on the 6th floor of the new wing at the TST school. We had about 37 guests and team
members taking part. Most of our guests were postgraduate university students that Julie Groves had invited
and I am deeply grateful for this opportunity we had to reach out to non-believing students. We also had some
members of the church taking part who have subsequently joined the Alpha Team this year.
The highlights of the course were the Alpha Holy Spirit Weekend at Tao Fong Shan, which was a time of
wonderful fellowship and fun and the weekly joke times led by the entertaining Andrew Cope! It seemed like
the Alpha Course gave a boost to the church during the interregnum without a pastor and I am very thankful
to God for His wonderful provision and presence with us.
I would like to thank the Alpha Team especially, for their commitment, enthusiasm and friendship, Joyce
Lin for her valuable work, the church committee for their support and the rest of the church for your prayers
and donations of delicious desserts for lunch!
Please pray for the 3rd Sha Tin Church Alpha Course starting on February 24th, for anointing, the
overflowing of the Holy Spirit and fruitfulness. A scripture that comes to mind is " The wind blows wherever
it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with
everyone born of the Spirit." John 3:8 May the Lord's purposes be fulfilled!

Bookstall
Clarissa Gafoor
Over the last year the Sha Tin Church book stall went through one rather large change in that we stopped the
`sale or return` deal that we`d had, and decided to simply buy the c.ds and books wanted for the stall.
Following this decision we had a few months of hugly succssesful sales.
It seems that we are a church that buys more music than books {could this be something to do with how
wonderful our worship has become under John, James and Paul?} with this in mind it might be that the book
stall will simply sell c.ds and Bibles - especially the Message, and of course cards and gifts at Christmas and
Easter - but I am always open to suggestions concerning this. Also rather than have the stall open nearly every
week we will now open once a month.
Again I am always open to suggestions –

Church Office / Ministry Centre – Prayer Fundraising
Young Peacock
I am sure that since our Pastor Dale arrived many of us have been wondering what is the next direction of
Church Office and Ministry Centre Fundraising (COMCF) and what will happen with our offerings for the
church office and ministry centre (COMC). So here is the current news regarding this.
First, I am very sorry to announce that I am stepping down as COMC fundraising leader as I have far too
many commitments these days, and I also believe that God will be preparing someone to pick up and carry on
this vision for our church. I really thank God for your sharing of this vision, and your heart for generous
giving for the COMC for the church’s sake. I pray that may God keep richly blessing you and keep burning
His flame of love in your heart for His church and people.
Below are the details of the COMC money collected so far, and one change made by the church committee:
1. One change – the committee decided to withhold monthly designation of HK$5,000 for COMC fund from
January 2007 (this was announced at the last Annual General Meeting too).
2. Total COMC Fund received by 14 January 2008 - HK$147,071
a. Church Ministry Centre Accrual (i.e. from General Fund) – HK$60,000
b. Donation from individual members – HK$87,071 which includes:
a) from the Church 15th Anniversary Dinner – HK$16,360 from the church
b) from the Church Office / Ministry Centre Sunday
If you have more questions regarding the total COMC fund please ask the church treasurer. I also ask for you
to join in prayers with Pastor Dale as he has been praying about the COMC vision to hear from God.

Family Camp
Young Peacock
Praise the Lord! Last family camp was not exceptional to experience God’s faithfulness and His loving hand
holding us together as a church. After a long absence of a pastor within the church, our newly arrived Pastor
Dale and his wife Pat’s joining the camp added more excitement and anticipation entering into a new chapter
of Shatin church life through the camp. It was indeed a very enjoyable and meaningful camp 2007,
welcoming Pat & Dale and other new members and getting to know each other better.
As usual the Breakthrough Youth Village was a perfect campsite for us to enjoy. We were around 90
overnight campers and over 120 participants for the Sunday service. We were very glad to see Pastor Victor
& his wife Kelly as our guest speakers again. I and Carmen truly thank those who made the camp happen by
such faithful and hard work behind the scenes, especially for Paul & his team and Jon & the music team.
Thank you so much! May God keep richly blessing you!
This year 2008, we look forward to another family camp. Our Pastor Dale will be the camp speaker. Please
pray for God’s strength and inspiration for him. I hope that the below give a clearer idea about why and what
we focus on through family camp;
1) to bring us closer to each other as a whole family of Christ, which provides a very rare opportunity of
spending several nights & days together,
2) to enjoy each other’s presence within our lives,
3) for refreshing and re-energizing away from the busy life of Hong Kong,
4) for the Spirit to take us into a much deeper level for tuning to Him church-wide
Please feel free to talk to me if you have any suggestions or wish to help in any way for this coming camp.
Thank you!

Hall Set Up Crew
Peter Onuselogu
For the last seven years since I started coordinating the activities of the setup crew, this year seems to be the
time when we number the least. Some committed brothers and sisters who have been in the service have had
to leave the crew for various reasons. A good number of them have left Hong Kong for good and others have
assignments out of town.
Even in this time of scarce human resources, the Lord has continued to bless us with very committed crew. It
took me only simple email reminders and occasional follow-up calls for members without email facility to be
confident that the rostered persons will do their service. Although nearly all crew members worked twice as
many regular shifts, there was gladness in the service which was to the Lord. The Lord has granted us
singleness of the heart.
Our work is not tedious but it requires commitment. It is ambience oriented. Things like ensuring that there
isn’t too much natural lighting, and that the room temperature is about right, make the Sunday Worship more
interesting to a more comfortable congregation. As much as possible, the banners that are put up should
relate to the sermon theme. Seat arrangement should be such that those nearest to the loud speakers don’t feel
“blasted” and that there is always enough space in the side and main aisles for easy movement. Some of our
tasks continue throughout the service. For example, it is our responsibility to bring out more chairs as more
people come. We need to adjust the lighting to correspond to the activity especially during platform dance or
video projection. We watch the congregation and turn off or turn on some air-conditioners. It is also our
responsibility to bring out sufficient bibles for easy referencing of our visitors during sermon.
As we journey through this New Year, we pray for strength and grace to continue. We pray for more
commitment and more wisdom towards better service. We pray for Divine providence to meet our needs. We
pray for God’s blessing upon our heads and upon the Church. We pray for and welcome those joining the
crew. And we are encouraged by the fact that: “Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall
utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as
eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:30 & 31.

Projection Team
Kathlyn Lee
If we still remember, the entire Projection Team was left completely vacant last year. The church was
virtually without a single projection operator at one time. The church made the urgent announcements to
recruit new members and, thank God, a number of people (including myself) signed up the Projection Team.
Now we have a full team of five members. Though the entire team is new, we manage to have enough
knowledge to operate the equipments. I also would like to take this opportunity to thank the projection team
members for their committment and now we have a committed and stable team on the roster.
Our tasks in the Projection Team are basically to set up a computer note book together with the projector; and
operate them during the service to ensure it is well-connected between different parts of the service, from
welcome, worship, annoucements to sermon.
Looking forward, as the equipments have been operated for awhile and from time to time, it could be a
challenge to set them up. We pray that there will be new resources could be invested into the projection
equipment so that it could catch up with new technology and the congregation could be blessed with quality
Sunday Service.

Refreshments Team
Selene Lim
In 2007 the refreshment team members worked hard and carried out the required duties efficiently.
With the recent decision from the committee to reinstate the Friendship Sunday Lunches for 2008, it means
additional hard work to be put in. Notwithstanding, I venture to say on behalf of the team that we are
delighted to be given the opportunity again to serve and support the lunches which we believe have blessed
many in different ways. It is simply great for church family members get-together for a meal after church
service and treating a friend with lunch augurs well with the invitation to our friends for Friendship Sunday
service.
Quite similar to last year, the prayer request for our team is for unity, physical strength to handle the current
refreshment arrangement duties. Finally we praise God for our long waiting prayer request for male team
member and finally one of our church members - Jatinder Singh who has just signed up to join the
refreshment team, and is the only gentleman in the refreshment team at writing. As always, we really
encourage more church members to join this ministry of hospitality and hard work. The entry requirement is
simple: what we need is a warm heart and physical strength.

Ushers
Young Peacock
Looking back over the past year, I see how busy we ushers were! For ordinary Sundays, and for Friendship
Sundays and all other special Sundays, the ushers were always there to assist our Sunday services. We thank
the Lord for our faithful ushers and also a BIG THANK YOU to them for their services. May God keep filling
them with His Spirit of love, hope and joy.
We warmly invite you to be a part of the ushers team if you are thinking about how to serve God and His
Kingdom. Ushering might look like an insignificant role, yet it is a very necessary and important ministry for
Sunday communal services. Moreover, it is good fun and an excellent way to meet people in church, and a
lovely way to express the love of Christ to them.
I hope the below job description gives you an idea of how we are serving every Sunday:
We arrive at church about 30 minutes before the service and serve these areas:
1) Welcome people to Sunday worship and greet them with big smiles
2) Hand out church bulletins and information leaflets
3) Display Bibles and any Christian-related leaflets/tracts/information on tables
4) Assist newcomers to find appropriate seats, creche or bathroom etc.
5) Assist people to go forward for communion
6) Collect tithes and offerings
7) Help to maintain a smooth-running service

Women’s Retreat
Young Peacock
It was just last month (February 22 & 23) that we ladies had our Shatin church women’s retreat 2008 at the
Do Fung Shan retreat centre in Tai Wai.
The retreat centre was so beautiful and peaceful that we felt we were no longer in Hong Kong. We were also
so touched by our Heavenly Father’s compassionate love and showered by the spirit through our guest
speaker Cindy’s message. The retreat ended with the holy communion, as we want to remember the Lord’s
presence within us all the time, and with the actual wedding bow as a symbol for our commitment to love and
to be faithful to Jesus as we are His lovely bride. Another highlight of the retreat, an extra bonus, was to learn
all about the history of the Do Fung Shan centre.
We look forward to God’s continuous guidance for women in Shatin church, and pray that He will heal,
transform and raise us to be the women in His mind who are in faith, love, hope, wisdom and influential to
our families and communities.
PASTOR’S REPORT
Rev Dale Hanson
Pat and I would like to thank all the Shatin church family for the warm welcome we have received since we
returned to Hong Kong in September 2007. A very important part of my role as pastor is to go around telling
people what a wonderful job they are doing in the area of ministry or leadership they are involved in: it is true
and I mean it!
I want to pay tribute to all the commitment shown by so many people that God has used to make Shatin
Church into what we are today. I thank God for the enormous energy and commitment that Pastor Stephen
and Crystal gave over so many years to build this church up. We all thank God for those who supported the
ministry of the church during the transition that led up to my arrival. There are too many to list in full, but I do
want to mention the important roles of John Menear and the staff of St. Andrew’s and that of the Shatin
Church Committee with Matthew Peacock as its chair.
Everywhere I look in Shatin Church I see mission and ministry led by excellent, highly committed people of
all ages, backgrounds and nationalities which is wonderful – please take this as a personal “thank you” from
me!
The time since my arrival has gone quickly. I still feel that I am at the stage of discerning the way forward for
our church. Pat and I enjoyed getting to know people at our church camp, held soon after we arrived, led with
such energy and enthusiasm by Pastor Victor and Pastor Kelly (thank you to Young and Carmen for all your
organising skills). Over the next few months I pray that together with all God’s people at Shatin Church
God’s call to us will become even clearer.
Soon after I arrived, I simplified our vision/purpose statement that appears on the front of our bulletin. This
now reads as:
CHURCH ON FIRE
- passionate worshippers
- committed disciples
- an international church making a difference for the Kingdom of God.
This seems to reflect “who we are” as a church. I removed the previous reference to “cell based” as we are in
a time of transition regarding the best way to develop our small groups and relationships with one another.
For me these are “early days” – please continue to pray for the leadership and whole life of this church as you
have been doing. Your prayer genuinely is the most important gift that you can give this church. I have been
deeply challenged by these verses from James about prayer:
“You do not have, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, in order to
spend what you get on your pleasures.” [James 4:3]
This coming year may we “ask God rightly” and so receive all He has for us.

Annual Report 2007
TREASURER’S REPORT
LINDA TSE
OVERVIEW
2007 has been a year of transition as we began the year without a full time pastor in place. From a giving
perspective, 2007 was a relatively soft year as compared against historical trend. Offerings totaled
$1,995,038, a decrease of 10% year on year. Given that the church was in a stage of transition and the fact
that attendance has dropped, the income level achieved was probably as good as we could hope.
Attributable to the absence of a full time pastor and with close control over operating cost, we finished the
year with a surplus of $319,401. After the transfer of $85,970 from reserves to provide assistance fund pay
out, a year-end balance of $563,829 was left. This will enable us to move forward with confidence into year
2008. We thank and praise our lord for that.
INCOME
Of the $2,015,487 achieved, 85% of the income came through members’ planned giving. The rest of the
income came through in the form of loose offering, bank interests and cassette ministry income received.
EXPENSES
Annual expenses dropped by 31% year on year, reflecting the state of the church as afore-mentioned. The
larger expense items relate to mission tithes (18%), staff salary (13%), office expenses (8%), facilities rental
(8%) and new pastor search and set up (8%).
In 2007, we supported 14 missions, save with the exception of Project Exodus which ceased operation in the
last quarter of 2007, each received mission tithes of over $24,000. Apart from our 15% mission giving tithes
from non-designated income, designated donations totaled $134,800 came through the church as well.
BUDGET
The committee is prepared to commit to an operating budget of $2,181,000 with a slight deficit of $27,000.
Apart from maintaining our current levels of staffing and percentage tithe to mission support, this budget
reflects the priorities to:

reinstate friendship Sunday lunches and vehicle replacement accruals;

run two Alpha courses during this fiscal year;

increase transportation (bus rental) expenses in light of the disposal of the church bus;

initiate prayer and praise meetings;

accommodate for office rental increases; and.

include option for salary increases to our staff and pastor.
To meet the budget target for 2008, offerings totaling of $2,154,000 will be required, representing only a
modest 7% increase from the 2007 actual offerings received.
This will be my last year as church treasurer. Reflecting back, it was my pleasure and privilege to work with
our thoughtful and good humored church committee who gave freely of themselves and their time to conduct
the business of the church. I would also want to take this opportunity to thank the dedication of the money
counting team.
Please pray that God to move in the hearts of his people to give generously to facilitate the work of his
Kingdom.
