Chlorophyll
a green pigment that allows some organisms to absorb energy from sunlight
Stomata
a pore found in leaves and stems of plants that allows the exchange of gases
Transpiration
the loss of water vapor from plants through stomata
Chloroplasts
parts of a plant cell that capture sun energy for use in photosynthesis
Glucose
a simple sugar plants produce through photosynthesis and use for energy
Carbon dioxide
used by plants for photosynthesis
Radiant energy
light energy, including all electromagnetic waves such as x-rays, ultraviolet, and
microwaves
Chemical energy
energy released by chemical reactions, such as using sugars
Light energy
energy from the sun used by organisms undergoing photosynthesis
Oxygen
an element released when organisms undergo photosynthesis; animals use to
release energy from food
