Reflections are very important. Reflections tell about YOU – what you think, how you feel, what you learned, etc. They give personal insight about YOU. Also, make a list of new words that you learned. You will not receive credit for activities without personal reflections. If you need more space, please attach a separate sheet of paper. Logs are due every Tuesday. You must turn in your log by Friday to receive any credit. If you do not have your log with you one week, you may write on a piece of paper and turn that in. Later staple it to your log. All work on the language and cultural connections logs is to be completed OUTSIDE of class. The log will comprise the majority of your culture grade for this quarter. How much can you understand with the limited amount of Spanish you know? What words did you hear? Notice Spanish signs in places you already go Notice Spanish on products you use in your home Take a look in the phone book—are there many Hispanic last names? In your regular grocery store, is there a Latino section? Are there products you would try…or not? Read Spanish in something you are reading in English Cook a dish from a Spanish-speaking country Speak Spanish with a native speaker Interview a native Speaker about their move to the US Interview someone that has lived in a Spanish speaking country Listen in on a native speaker speaking Spanish Watch a show on a Spanish language channel (soap operas-telenovelas- are very entertaining) Watch a children’s show that teaches Spanish (Come on vámonos) Teach a song or something from class to a family member Look up something of interest to you on the internet that is about Spanish culture Go to a Latino grocery store (Tapatia, etc) Do something that relates to the Spanish language or the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world Eat at an authentic restaurant. (La Patria, El Salvador del Mundo, Los Laureales) Read a story or poem in Spanish. Listen to a song or watch a music video in Spanish. Listen to something about a Spanish-speaking country on the news or read about it in the paper Attend a cultural event: Latino Fest, quinceañera, etc. These should be NEW experiences.
