GreetingsCongratulations, you have become a member of AFSCME Local 120. Local 120
represents over 700 workers throughout Pierce County.
Local 120 is made up of 6 different Bargaining Groups:





Pierce County
The City of Tacoma
The Tacoma Pierce County Health Dept The City of Tacoma Library
The City of Bonney Lake
The City of Orting
The Executive Board is the governing body of the Local.
The Executive Board meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month. These meetings are held
at the Pierce County Annex Building.
The Executive Board consists of:







President
Vice-President
Secretary Treasurer
Recording Secretary
Sergeant At Arms
7 Policy Chairs
3 Trustees
The Local receives a dues rebate from Council 2 (representing all AFSCME County and
City Workers in the State of WA). The Executive Board creates a budget for the local and
determines how the local's funds will be spent
The Executive Board has several Standing Committees (which are open to participation
by members of the local):





Legislative/Political Action Committee (which deals with political endorsements,
and legislative actions),
Finance Committee (which creates the yearly budget),
Website Committee (which oversees the Local 120 Website, www.local120.org),
Newsletter Committee (which puts out the Local 120 Newsletter)
Holiday Party Committee (which puts on the Annual Holiday Party every
December).
Officers are elected for 2-yr. terms at the General Membership meetings held in
December of even numbered years.
Policy Chairs and Policy Group Secretaries are elected for 2-yr. terms at Policy Group
meetings held in December of even numbered years.
Trustees (conduct an audit of the Local's books once a year and act in an advisory
capacity on the Executive Board) are elected to 3yr. terms at the General Membership
Meeting each December.

Policy Groups consist of the Policy Chair, the Policy Group Secretary and the members
of that Policy Group.
Policy Groups elect Shop Stewards (Member participation is encouraged), Negotiate
Contracts and Enforce those Contracts through the Grievance Procedure.
The Policy groups provide information to the members from the Executive Board and to
the Executive Board from the members.
Shop Stewards are the backbone of the union, they enforce the contract and provide a
two-way conduit by which information flows to the members from the Policy Groups and
from the members to the Policy Groups.
Local 120 is a Democratic Organization where member participation is encouraged at
every level and every member has a voice in how the Local is run.
Local 120 is currently represented by Dylan Carlson, the Staff Representative (Business
Representative) from the State Council (Council 2).

months at the Pierce County Annex (2401 S. 35th St., Conference Room A)

Local 120 Policy Groups meet on the first Monday of odd numbered months,

The Local 120 Executive Board meets at 6:30 PM, on the third Thursday of every
month, at the Pierce County Annex - Conf. Room D.
