Motorists and Residents Warned to Stay Indoors A train and bus have collided in Encinitas in the area of Chesterfield Drive and Highway 101 spilling 50 gallons of a substance believed to be arsenic according to on scene hazardous materials personnel. Residents in the immediate area are being asked to stay indoors, turn off air conditioners or any device that brings outside air inside, and close doors and windows to avoid exposure. First responders are in the area to contain the spill and are turning residents away from the area. Anyone who believes they were exposed to the chemical is asked to go to Qualcomm Stadium for decontamination. Additionally, the San Diego Sheriff’s Department is asking residents to avoid any unnecessary driving in the County as there are numerous traffic collisions and traffic gridlock in the region. If it is necessary to drive, please use extra caution near railroad crossings and major intersections as traffic signals may not be operational due to the outage. Only call 911 in the event of a life-threatening emergency.
