SAA Board Meeting Minutes

Attendees: Susan, Lauren, Rachel, Lilly, Kathi

I. Board vision for chapter activities
a. Focus on professional development, networking (internally and externally), social events
i. More informal opportunities to convene – guest speakers at Happy Hours
b. Fundraising possibilities for professional development
c. Change to Archives Week?
i. Archivists of Central TX and AHC may take more of a lead role in programming
ii. Kathi will liaison with AHC
iii. Susan will talk to TSLAC about programming and event space possibilities
d. Time to revisit/expand chapter Mission Statement
II. Potluck
a. Date set for May 3, 2014
b. Provide small gift/token to graduating SAA members at Potluck
III. Upcoming events/activities
a. Solicit ideas for merchandise design prior to April meeting
i. Funds can be used this spring
b. Membership!
i. In archives classes, Board members will promote joining SAA and attending upcoming
events
ii. Anticipated graduation year will be added to the official membership list
c. Certified Archivist Exam on 3/20
i. Central Market as possible caterer, Lilly will look into their menu
d. Time for Safety/Pizza moved – is now 6pm-8pm
e. Board member will keep record of meeting and event attendance and outcome
f. After speakers, tours, events with invited guests and professionals – Board will send Thank You
notes
g. Archivists of Central TX are planning a bus to SSA (New Orleans)
i. Susan will relay more information to group members as it becomes available
h. Board members agreed to promote official SAA social media efforts on personal feeds
i. Future meetings alters and email blasts will be cross posted in Insider/Flipsider
j. Lauren is coordinating SAA chapter meetup at SAA conference (D.C.), and will provide more
information when available
k. Merchandise will be sold throughout the end the semester – especially around graduation
IV. Recap and Action Items
a. Kathi will confirm May 3rd Potluck date with Ciaran
b. Lilly will rech out to HRC about possible repository tour for this Spring
i. Tuesday or Friday afternoon
c. Kathi will arrange repository tour at Alexander Archives for the Fall
d. Lilly will review catering menu options for 3/20 event
e. Susan will create flyer promoting SAA and upcoming events – post to Insider
f. Next Board meeting scheduled for March 31 at 4:45pm – Meet in front of Starbucks at the
Texas Union
