Words from Our President
Greetings and Blessings all,
December’s Book of the Month
No Ordinary Noel
By Pat G’Orge-Walker
I hope this newsletter finds each of you and
your families well. As we go through the hustle
and bustle of the holiday season I pray we all
keep the reason of the season in the fore front.
This year we made history once again. President
Obama was re-elected for four more years.
What a wonderful feeling that night was.
This year the east coast was hit with a
devastating storm, one we have never seen
before. In the aftermath of Sandy, we saw
towns and counties wiped out completely. The
state of New Jersey, Long Beach Long Island,
Staten Island, Coney Island Brooklyn and we
cannot forget about our neighbor Far Rockaway
Queens was each left in a state of emergency.
So yes this holiday season the love of family and
friends and the traditions of our youth has a
much greater meaning.
This holiday season I am also grateful for the
dedication and commitment of all the members
of Sugar & Spice Book Club. This book club
started eight years ago with an idea to bring
readers and authors together. And have fun
doing it. We also realized that we had to be a
vehicle in our community to help those in need.
With the many changing faces of Sugar & Spice
our vision remains the same. Sugar & Spice
also help birth our very own author “Eva
Tremaine” aka Tawanna Sams member since
2005. We have been the catalyst for many
authors to get their books out into the literary
world. What a wonderful eight years it has been.
As we prepare for our ten year celebration I look
forward to all we have to offer. I am excited
about what Tatia our VP and I have in store for
our members for 2013. Enjoy this newsletter,
enjoy your holidays and remember “He Reigns.”

Book synopsis: Christmas is a time of giving. But how
about receiving? In Pat G'Orge-Walker's hilarious new
novel, a small-town congregation will need every
miracle in the Book to rediscover the real reason for
the season . . .
Even feisty prayer warrior Sister Betty has never seen
the kind of trouble brewing at Crossing Over Sanctuary
church. The financially-struggling members have until
Christmas day to pay off millions in debt to The Cheater
Brothers' Piece of Savings Bank. And Reverend Leotis
Tom refuses to accept any of trustee Freddie Noel's
sinful mega-lottery winnings. Instead, he hopes
bickering church mothers Bea Blister and Sasha Pray
Onn's money-raising schemes will provide heaven-sent
rewards while he renegotiates with God.
The only way Sister Betty can help Freddie save his
beloved church is to open the reverend's eyes to his
congregation's history of wildly unholy but profitable
secrets . . .and stay two steps ahead of the mothers'
"Geriatric Mafia." Between scandal and near-disaster,
Sister Betty will need all her faith to prove that
blessings in disguise are blessings nonetheless. . .

Instructions
“Love on the Run” by Zuri Day
Heat the butter in a 3-quart saucepan over
medium heat. Add the celery and onion and
cook until they're tender. Stir in the apple cider,
apples and carrot. Remove the saucepan from
the heat. Add the stuffing and mix lightly
Remove the package of the giblets and neck
from the chicken cavity. Rinse the chicken with
cold water and pat dry with a paper towel.
Spoon the stuffing lightly into the neck and body
cavities. Fold the loose skin over the stuffing.
Tie the ends of the drumsticks together. Place
the chicken, breast-side up, on a rack in a
shallow roasting pan. Brush the chicken with
the oil. Insert a meat thermometer into the
thickest part of the meat, not touching the bone.
Roast at 325°F for 2 1/2 to 3 hours or until the
drumstick moves easily and the center of the
stuffing reaches 165°F, basting occasionally with
