A Policy of Peaceful
Transition, excerpt from
Jefferson’s inaugural
address.
Student Product
Create a table with
information about all the
presidents up to 1800 and
answer questions about it and
Jefferson’s address.
Comments
The goal is for students to
understand how the
Constitution allows for a
peaceful transfer of power
through elections.
Daily Life in the New Nation
(Includes 7 perspectives:
farm, city, frontier, women,
free and enslaved African
Americans, Native
Americans).
Students are instructed to
create a three-column matrix
of notes with the name of the
7 sections, details about their
daily life, and how life has
changed since 1800.
This is completely
supplemental to the content
in the textbook. In other
words it’s not assessed. But
it would be useful as an
extension reading for
selected students.
1. Independent and high level
learners could create a PP
presentation with a slide for
each perspective.
2. The artisticly inclined might
create a series of graphics
with text, one for each
perspective, identifying point of
view.

What does he say about the

tone is used for the transfer
of power?
 Praise for the previous
presidency or critical?
