Dear Diary…
As we have read the first two acts of Romeo and Juliet, we have discussed how the events of the play have
affected the lives of other characters, not just the lives of Romeo and Juliet. For this assignment, you will create a
compilation of personal diary entries from various characters in Act II. To give you the opportunity to explore the reactions of
all of the characters we have met so far, pretend to be one of the characters from EACH SCENE in Act II (six scenes)-This
means that you will have a total of SIX DIARY ENTRIES. You may choose 6 different characters or repeat some of the
character choices.
In your diary entries, record the events of the scene from your character’s perspective or an explanation for how
your character may have heard of these aforementioned events if your character was not directly involved with the events.
Keep in mind that your character will write about events after they have happened. Strive to portray your character
accurately in terms of voice, education, personality, etc. Also, you should demonstrate an accurate knowledge of the play.
Entries should be at lest a half of a page to a page. Both quantity and quality will be considered. *Please sign each diary
entry with the appropriate character’s name, so I know who you are!
In terms of aesthetics, people have used all kinds of paper, stickers, photographs of them portraying
characters/scenes, magazine clippings, scrap booking items, given an “ancient” look, used different fonts or calligraphy,
various types of binding the diary together, 3-D book diaries, etc. Use your imagination. The sky is the limit here.
I ask just three things of you:
1. Please do not spend a lot of money on this; look around your home for hidden treasures.
2. Please make sure that the font/writing style you choose is easy to read.
3. Take pride in your work and do your best. Remember, I have seen some amazing diaries over the years and
have high expectations!
