Introduction
Instructor Led Online classes allow the customers to receive live instruction at their home
or office and save time and travel expenses. Expert Oracle instructors deliver the same
quality training as in our classrooms, during 4 hours of daily online instruction. Students:



Maximize learning retention with live lectures, live office hours and interactive
training sessions
Gain realistic, hands-on practice with easy access to live, hosted Oracle software
environment
Increase comprehension and further hands-on practice with self-paced
supplemental lessons and lab exercises, organized with an online study guide.
The instructor can be located anywhere to conduct this class. The PowerPoint is displayed
to the customer using Web Conference and the instructor sets up an audio conference to
lecture. This means that the students should have two phone lines or one phone line and a
cable modem connection.
During the course, students will attend two; 2-hour live online lectures daily, with a break
in between. After the live Instructor-Led sessions they can delve deeper into lessons with
self-paced training materials and lab exercises, following the Online Study Guide. To
give them access to the instructor for questions or clarification, live office hours are
scheduled for duration of 1 hour every day. Supplemental study is available through
recorded eClasses with some courses.
How to become a successful ILO instructor:
The ILO course uses the exact same course material as an in-class. It’s the delivery format
that is different. There are some common issues instructors encounter doing an ILO class,
either prepping for a first teach or conducting a class. Here is a sample:





Inability to demonstrate the use of the order key
Don't know the OLN support number
Never seen a study guide and don't know what one is
Don't know how to access the practice environment
Don't know we don't mail courseware, that it's all downloaded

Check List for ILO Instructors
You can make your Online Teaching experience a successful experience by being
prepared. If you follow this simple checklist you should be well prepared for the ILO
experience.
To prepare to teach ILO class for the first time
If you are teaching ILOs for the first time then you must carry out the following to
prepare.

b. How the Audio conference will be held
c. What phone number the students will use for Help desk Support
d. What is the order key id for the study Guide

Appendix A: How to Obtain Raindance Web Conference and OLN Account
RainDance Web Conferencing Accounts
The easiest way to avoid problems is to be prepared. If you are teaching a class online
that is a counterpart of an Instructor Led-Training class, understand that the content of the
ILO class is the same. The difference is the delivery media. The ILO classes are
presented using a combination of a Web and an Audio conference call. Oracle uses
RainDance Web conferencing facilities for Web Conference. The Audio Conferencing
varies from country to country. Please check with your Region’s ILO Admin Single Point
of Contact (SPOC) to find out how the Audio conferencing will be provided. Each ILO
class has their own accounts, which will be used to present the class. The ILO ADMIN
SPOC will make the account information available to the instructor the weekend prior to
the start of the class.
However, each instructor should obtain his or her own RainDance Web accounts. Use
your personal accounts to upload power point slides, practice presenting a class, asking
polling question, using chat, whiteboard sharing, application sharing, etc. Even though
each ILO class has its own RainDance accounts, you should become very familiar with all
aspects of the product via your own personal account to ensure a successful teach.
How To Obtain RainDance Web Conferencing Moderator Account (for instructors)
Each instructor should obtain his or her own RainDance Web accounts. Use your
personal accounts to upload power point slides, practice presenting a class, asking polling
question, using chat, whiteboard sharing, application sharing, etc. Even though each ILO

Appendix E: ILO Weekly Accounts Message
Each week, prior to class, the Region’s ILO SPOC will send the ILO weekly accounts
message to the appropriate list of instructors. The message will either contain or point to
a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, which will have an individual worksheet for every ILO
class. If the class is scheduled to be taught that week, the worksheet for that class will be
filled in with the appropriate account message information. If the class is not scheduled
for that week, its worksheet will not contain account information. Here is an example:

Appendix F: Accessing the Practice Environment
The Accounts Message will include all information necessary to access the practice
environment for each class. For example in the case of the DBA Fundamental I course,
that environment is located at the URL:
http://essoln02.oracle.com/tarantella/
Accessing this URL will require a userid and password, which is in the message. The
practice accounts for the above class are teach1 and user1 through user20. The password
for these accounts is the same thing as the Portal Password or Portal Password –1.
Access to the practice environment will be available to the students as a link in the OLN
Study Guide, either as a link by itself (Access Practice environment) or embedded inside
the practice link.
Select the link and a browser session will start. The screen will turn red for a moment,
you may get some plug-ins loaded, but eventually you will be presented with a log in
screen. This is where you enter the database account userid and password provided in the
accounts message. (See below)

The practice environment for the Introduction to Oracle9i SQL class is a little different.
These practices are done using iSQLPlus, also accessed through the Study Guide. There
is an iSQL*Plus session link at the top of the practice module page. Selecting this link
brings up the iSQLPlus login. This is where the students enter the userid and password
from the Accounts Message. Note: The iSQL*Plus link is resolved to the link:
http://essoln01.oracle.com/isqlplus/. The students should be encouraged to use the
Study Guide for access.
The practice steps are listed in the module as well as the link to the practice environment.

The practice environment for Application Courses is a little different than that of the
Database and SQL courses. There is a PowerPoint slide that should be available from the
respective Raindance Web account. The instructor needs to review the content with the
students. It details the steps required for applications classes to access the appropriate
practice environment.
1. Initiate a browser session, either Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer.
2. Go to the URL as provided by your Instructor (for example
http://es0032.us.oracle.com/).
(Note: Always check the accounts message for Application URL)
3. Enter the information provided by your instructor in the Instance and class id fields
4. If needed download the Jinitiator from this page before proceeding.
5. The Oracle Applications Login page is displayed.

Step 3: Look for your class:
Note the difference between OTA title and ClassId.
For the DBA classes, password is Portal password or Portal Password -1
For Intro classes the password is ora+portalpassword e.g. ora295407
The teach account is the account you will use.
The Student Accounts are for the students
The database connect string is determined from the teach account. If teach account is teach3 it will be T3,
if the teach account is teach2 it will be T2 and so on.
You will also notice that the Portal Password and the Class id are the same.

Appendix I: Generating a Class Roster Report
Please be aware that it is mandatory that you generate a Class Roster on Day 1 of your
class. If a new student joins on day 2 then generate the roster on day 2 as well. To
generate a Class Roster, do the following:
On the 1st day of class use the following Polling question to obtain the sign-in
information from the students:
"Please enter the following:
- name
- company
- phone
- email address
- enrollment id* “
*The enrollment id is currently included in the weekly accounts spreadsheet and is retrieved from
OTA. The spreadsheet that you have can be outdated if students register over the weekend. Your
Regions ILO SPOC will inform you when this happens.
At the end of the 1st day create a report of the polling question. This report will
represent the class sign-in roster.
From the Moderator Menu:
- Select Reports
- Select the Event # representing the date and time when polling
tool was used to obtain sign-in information.
- From the drop-down, select Polling
- Select Update
- Select Polling Analyzer
- Save the html report as <class_id>_enrollment.html
*Send report to your Region’s ILO Admin SPOC.
