Call to Order: Meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. Invocation Pledge of Allegiance: The students from Houston Health Science Technology Academy recited the pledge and showcased recent PBL presentations Special Recognition Jacquinette Murphy shared the following information: District Angel Tree donation report. Lancaster ISD’s STEM curriculum and Pitsco labs were highlighted in the printed and online editions of the Dallas Business Journal during the week of January 10-16. Charles, “Chuck” Rhea, a maintenance and transportation employee and member of the Belt Line family, retired in January. Rosa Parks Elementary Pre-K Assistant, Alice Powell retired in January. Two LHS students Victoria Hatton and Olive Kinga receives MLK Foundation Scholarships. LHS student, Yazmine Stewart, received a $500 scholarship from the Dallas Martin Luther King Parade committee and the DFW/Elite News. LHS art teacher Tracey Salters has been accepted to the Teaching for Creativity Institute at the Dallas Museum of Art and the exhibit halls of the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. The LMS Math Department was awarded the $25,000 i-Rock Math Grant from the National Math and Science Initiative and United Way of Metropolitan of Dallas. Lancaster Engineering Academy received the Texas Comptroller’s 2013 Texas Honors Circle Award, which recognizes districts and campuses achieving academic success through costeffective operations. PreK-12 ELA/Social Studies Coordinator Mazie Leichman has been selected to receive the Mercedes Bonner Leadership Award by the Texas Council of Teachers of English Language Arts. LMS student Lamarra Smith-Gibbs took home the title of Lancaster ISD’s best speller during the district-wide spelling bee held on January 14. Lancaster Elementary fourth grader, Mya Adams will also attend the County Bee as an alternate. Campuses celebrated the Board of Trustees in honor of Board Appreciation Month. Kay Kizziar presented information to the Board. Approved 7-0 Discussion and possible approval of the 2012-2013 Financial Audit – CDA (LEGAL) and CAA (LOCAL).
