GUIDELINES FOR PRESENTERS
For 30 years, the Society of Pakistan English Language Teachers (SPELT) has been striving to
create professional awareness by promoting new learning methodologies and multiple
learning platforms to accommodate the needs of English Language Teachers in Pakistan at all levels. This awareness is raised through
monthly academic sessions, quarterly journal, teacher training / development courses, and the SPELT Annual International Conference.
The SPELT International Conferences provide productive and exciting opportunities for professional development through
interactive and innovative sessions. The conferences also provide excellent opportunities for networking, learning and sharing ideas
with teachers from different parts of the world. Proposals are now being invited for the 30th SPELT International Conference on
the themes of classroom practices, research in language teaching and learning, and their relationship with each other.
The conference objectives are:

Enhancing the quality of English teaching and evaluation

Improving the quality of teacher education and training

Promoting Learner Autonomy

Narrowing the gap between teachers and researchers

Providing a professional forum for sharing and networking

Reviewing the role of English in the changing world

Keeping teachers and ELT practitioners abreast with the latest happenings in the ELT World
Contributions can be related to any area or issue in EFL/ ESL including:








Teaching the four skills
Teaching/ learning in large classes
Teacher training/education/development
Teaching young learners
Classroom management techniques
Research reports / research in progress
Testing and evaluation
Learning strategies/learner-centered
teaching








Teaching language through literature
Applied Linguistics
ESP/ EAP/ EMP
Early Childhood Education/ Development
Technology in Education
School Leadership and management
World Englishes
Role of Leadership in ELT
The following types of presentations are being solicited:
A) Paper:
50 minutes, which includes 15 minute question/ answer Session..
It should discuss what the presenter is doing or has done in relation to either theory or practice.
Handouts and audio-visual aids may be used to illustrate the presenter’s ideas.
B)
Workshop:
50 minutes or 1 hr 50 minutes
The workshop leader should avoid using the lecture method and should focus on involving the
participants in activities (in groups or pairs) that focus on problem solving, or in developing specific
teaching strategies. A step by step procedure of the workshop along with a short description of
activities should be outlined.
C)
Demonstration:
50 minutes
A demonstration is used for showing rather than telling about a technique for teaching or testing, with
only a brief (not more than 5 minutes) reference to the underlying theory. Handouts and audio-visual
aids may be used for the exposition of activities.
D) Colloquium:
50 minutes or 1 hr 50 minutes
A colloquium provides both short and formal presentations and participants’ discussions. It is an
opportunity for group presentations in which issues, ideas, and techniques can be discussed and
shared.
E)
Poster Session
By displaying teaching materials/ visual aids or project(s) in progress, the presenter(s)
informally share their experiences with participants.
While writing the paper/ workshop outline please keep the following points in mind:

In general, presentations should be based on practical classroom experiences as far as possible.
All sources of ideas and references should be acknowledged.
All presenters should register for the conference. Without registration, abstracts will not be placed in the conference programme.
However, the presenters from foreign countries may register upon arrival
