COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course will introduce topics concerning international business while illustrating its scope
and importance. Topics will include the impact of geography, trade protectionism, culture, legal
structure, politics, and currency on business dealings. Students will also research a particular
country in depth.

TEACHING METHODS:
1.
Lectures: Important material from the text and outside sources will be covered in class.
Students should plan to take careful notes as not all material can be found in the texts or
readings. Discussion is encouraged, as is student-procured, outside material relevant to
topics being covered. Learning Plans & powerpoint presentations are available on
instructor web page.
2.
Assignments: Various readings and work-related activities will be assigned to supplement
material given in class and from text readings.
3.
Metric Quiz: Students will be required to complete a metric system assessment requiring
80% accuracy. Two additional attempts will be allowed to master the metric system.
3.
Exams: Five topic exams will be given throughout the semester. The value for the
exams is 50 points each. Review will be conducted prior to actual exam.
4.
Grading Procedures: At the beginning of each unit, a packet will be made evaluable, with
competencies, learning objectives and performance criteria information. Each unit will
have a graded activity such as a quiz, exam, case study or written work. Upon successful
completion of these activities, students will receive a grade based on the assigned criteria.
Also, students (in groups) will “adopt” a foreign country. Each group will present
information about its country relating to the topic being discussed in class. Work is due at
the beginning of the class period. Each group will receive one “forgiven” which allows it
to turn in one late assignment without penalty. Otherwise, late work will be penalized
10%. The final tabulation will be part of the Country Project grade which totals 120
points.
