ENGLISH ORAL TIPS
Here are some pointers to prepare your child for PSLE oral examination.
READING ALOUD
1. Pronunciation.
 Differentiate between long and short vowels (pill vs peel, cut vs cart, pull vs pool)
 Take note of consonants (th as in thin, not to be pronounced as “t” or “d”).
 Differentiate and pronounce ending consonants (“t” and “d”, “p” and “b”, “k” and
“g”, “s” and “ed”)
 Smooth delivery with no hesitations.
2. Pause at appropriate places.
3. Read at a suitable pace, not too fast or too slow.
4. Using intonation (rising or falling) tone to reflect events or dialogue.
5. Read audibly, make sure you are not too soft.
6. Incorporate expression in reading so as not to be monotonous.
7. Do not skip words that you are unsure of. Make an attempt to read them.
PICTURE DISCUSSION
1. Use appropriate and extensive vocabulary.
