The Boiler Room
Rated M
The Boiler Room tells the story of an ambitious
young man’s rise, fall and the redemption in the
predatory and corrupt financial services sector. After
starting at the bottom of the ladder in the ‘Boiler
room’ Seth Davis rises up the ranks but sinks into
quagmire of dirty dealings which sees him breaking
the law in order to keep his bosses happy and his
cheque coming.
After the movie
Dr Andrew Dahdal will discuss how the financial
services sector in Australia is regulated and some of
the justifications for such regulation.
After the 2008 global financial crisis most attention
was placed on the recklessness of financial traders
and the culpability of the banks. Rather than the
simple picture of personal and corporate greed
driving instability in financial markets, Dahdal will
discuss his research into the regulation of money and
how government manipulation of money supply
plays havoc with price signals and is just as much a
cause of financial instability.
Dahdal teaches business and corporations law at

We encourage visitors to use sustainable transport
options wherever possible. With a train station on
campus and buses running from many areas of the city
it has never been easier to use public transport to visit
the University.
If you wish to drive, parking is available at various
locations on site. Parking fees apply and tickets can be
purchased from machines in car parks (they accept coins
only).
You can find more information about the various
transport options available as well as campus maps and
car parking at our transport website

If you would like to be added to the mailing list for the
events booklet, visit mq.edu.au/eventsbooklet or
contact Leanne Wigmore on (02) 9850 4110.
