Require them to participate and teach in the children and youth divisions of the church during the Sabbath School classes. Ask them to conduct and assist in the branch Sabbath School program outside the University. Participate in the tutorial classes for elementary in our adopted school and in the academic among foreign students. Implement field study one – six extensively. Provide them retreat to learn more about god and to understand its other as their partners in the world of work. Provide them for a better knowledge about God and enrichment to equip them to be good teachers someday. Provide them seminar – workshop. Allow them to occupy positions in the different clubs and train them to run the program under the College supervision. Develop the self-esteem of the students by encouraging them to do their best in the different classes. Provide them incentives if they excel in their performance by recognizing them publicly. Require them to speak in English in the College for employment locally & globally. Require teachers to incorporate values in their syllabi and in their actual teaching. Require teachers to become models to the students. Provide them activities for community work through outreach and community extension program. Develop tie-up locally and internationally for employment purposes within the church and in the secular world. Hire graduate from the field and connect them to AUP or serve as a resource speaker. Assist students who have difficulty in compliance with course work during consultation hours. Provide material support for the student if needed. GUIDELINES FOR THE STUDENT TEACHING PROGRAM 1. Directed Teaching (10/12) is divided into two phases. The first part is called Pre-Internship (field study). It is consist of observation and participation in the laboratory schools as students take their education subjects. As a requirement, they should start observing classes in their respective major areas for BSED and all subjects for BEED. They should documents their activities and be signed by the principal or the particular teacher where they observe. They are required to be involved in all the activities of the respective laboratory school where they are assigned to. Elementary and secondary education majors are required to assist in the children’s and academy Sabbath School as teacher, as assistant and/or coordinators during the branch Sabbath school and vacation Bible school, etc. They should earn 260 hours as pre-internship requirement. 2. After the student finishes all hi/her academic courses, he/she is ask to apply for internship a semester before the actual teaching. Upon assessment of the checklist and qualified, the student is 3. Ask to take the comprehensive exam as part of the dry-run for Licensure Examination for Teacher. 4. The phase is called the Actual Internship. It is a semester actual teaching. It is divided into two parts: the in-campus and the off-campus. In the in-campus, student is assigned to the laboratory school for first grading or third grading and off-campus for second grading or fourth grading. During the internship in the laboratory schools, student is asked to participate in all activities which includes the Home and school meeting, Sabbath school, camping, etc. they are asked to sign the daily time records as the basis for their internship hours for minimum of 450 hours and a maximum of 550 hours. 5. At the end of their internship, students are required to submit their Portfolio Assessment of Internship (a Narrative Report) 15 days after the final demonstration including Lesson plans, test samples, etc. College Recognition and Awards 1. Departmental Honor is given to a graduating senior with an over-all average in major of 3.25 with no grade lower than B in all major subjects. 2. Dean’s list is given to the student once in a year from first year to fourth year with an over-all GPA of 3.00 with no grade lower than B in all subjects taken. 3. Most outstanding Intern is awarded to a graduating student whose over-all in the final demonstration is 95% and above. 4. Outstanding Intern is awarded to a graduating senior whose rating in the final demonstration is 90% to 94%. 5. Best in Research is given to a graduating senior whose rating in the Educational Research is 95% in oral presentation. 6. Most Outstanding Leadership Award is given to a senior student who is active in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and accept leadership position during the academic years of his/her stay in the college. 100 pts and above-most 80-99 pts.-outstanding. 7. Outstanding Professional Performance is awarded to a senior student with a GPA of 3.25 in all professional subjects with no grade lower than B. 8. Loyalty Award is given to a graduating student who studied in Adventist University of the Philippines from elementary to college or in other SDA Institution in the Philippines or in abroad. Presents the historical, philosophical and psychological bases of early childhood education. EDUC 114 THE PRESCHOOL CHILD – 3 units. Traces the human development from prenatal period. Studies in detail the physical, intellectual, emotional and social characteristics of a preschool child and their implications in the teaching-learning process. It includes Bible based activities in guiding young children understand basic concepts in growing and living. EDUC 115 DEVELOPING LANGUAGE & NUMBER EXPERIENCES – 3 units. Discusses the principles and various methods in helping preschool children acquire basic language skills and number concepts. Teaching demonstrations for implementation of principles and methods is a requirement. EDUC 204 DEVELOPING SOCIAL LIVING, HEALTH & SCIENCES EXPERIENCES – 3 units. Discusses the various strategies in guiding young children understand the basic concepts in social living, health and science. Student prepares Bible-based activities in training young children for Christian living. EDUC 205 CREATIVE EXPERIENCES IN THE PRESCHOOL – 3 units. Challenges the creativity of the teacher in preparing and implementing various activities in music, art, and other physical activities for young children. Includes production and collection of activity materials that are in harmony with the principles of Adventist education for creative development. EDUC 313 THE PRESCHOOL CURRICULUM – 3 units. Designed to help students in the formulation of objectives, scope and sequence of the subject areas in harmony with the Seventh-day Adventist concept of early childhood education. Trains students to plan programs of activities and surveys different materials and equipment their designs and uses. EDUC 314 MANAGEMENT OF A PRESCHOOL UNIT – 3 units. Presents principles and practices in the administrative and supervisory aspects in the operation of a preschool. Shares insights and knowledge in the basics of opening or managing a preschool unit. EDUC 315 INTRODUCTION TO SPED – 3 units. Discusses the historical, philosophical, and legal bases of special education, the different categories of learners with special needs, and curricular program appropriate for early intervention. EDUC 316 ASSESSING BEHAVIOR OF YOUNG CHILD w/SPED – 3 units. DESCRIPTION OF BEED PROFESSIONAL COURSES EDUE 201 CHILDREN’S LITERATURE. This course develops appreciation for the different forms of literature: nursery rhymes, riddles, poems, and short stories for children; and provides strategies for instruction including dramatization, chamber theater, choral reading and recitation. The course also requires students to produce complete materials on children’s literature. EDUE 202 STRATEGIES IN TEACHING BIBLE AND VALUES – 3 units. This course will equip students the skills on how to teach virtues and chavader traits that are essential to the ideals of biblical principles. Various teaching methodologies will be applied plus the effective use of the teaching materials outlining in the REBIRTH Resource materials. The students are expected to demonstrate their values based on a relationship with God to be integrated in school activities and daily living. EDUE 203 TEACHING OF READING The course is designed to provide experiences for BEEd students to develop and expand functional reading skills explore the use of effective study and instructional skills. Opportunities for research will enable students to apply and assess competence through practice exercise, observation of classes and demonstration of acquired skill. Application of principles in the teaching of reading students meet the current trends are given emphasis. EDUE 310 TEACHING STRATEGIES I – 3 units. This course equips the prospective teachers with the understanding of the nature and methodologies in the teaching of Communication Arts in English and Filipino. The emphasis is on the study, analysis an appreciation of the various teaching models fundamental to the personal and social development in communication skills. It also includes strategies in information processing such as collecting organizing and evaluating data. EDUE 311 TEACHING STRATEGIES II – 3 units. This course deals with the basic strategies in the teaching of civics, geography, history and citizenship. The emphasis is on the application of the teaching models basic to values and behavior modification. Such models include negotiating goals and plan, classifying and analyzing one’s behavior and roles. Various components such as identifying objectives, receiving feedback, and studying the learners’ relation to the community/country as useful, loyal and progressive citizens are also stressed. EDUE 312 TEACHING STRATEGIES III Strategies in Teaching Mathematics, Science, Health, P.E., Home Economics and Livelihood are the focus. Emphasis is on the application of the various teaching models that will develop competencies fundamental to information processing, concept-formation, inquiry, computational and problem-solving skills. Relevant issues such as environmental conservation, ecological problems, pollution, economy and related matters affecting society are infused. EDUE 421 READING DIAGNOSIS AND REMEDIATION. This is an exposition of the basic methods involved in diagnosis of reading difficulty and remedial instruction. Students are made to realize that reading remediation is not simply curative but preventive. Acceptable ways of identifying symptoms of reading difficulties, techniques for selecting materials, case studies and planning a remedial program is included. EDUE 422 PREPARATION & EVALUATION OF LEARNING MATERIALS – 3 units. Prepares audio-visual materials in every subject area for use in teaching preschool children. Trains students to prepare modules, lesson plans and teaching guides. Projects to be prepared must consider the different learning styles of children and durable enough to last for a few years. 2.
