ITEM Service Introductions Continued. Actions from last meeting. DISCUSSION Theresa– LCHS Carer Services. Carers of frail aged, mental health, disability. -Community Promotion to raise awareness of LCHS services. - Memory Lane Café- Alzheimer’s Australia (pilot program). Entertainment for Carers and Care recipients, for socialising and networking and linking into services in the community. ACTION Jasmine- Yooralla Gippsland. Residential, ISP coordination, Fee for Service Case Management, Facilitation/Planning, Flexible Respite, Support for Older Carers. Interchange and GSHS to discuss group for young adults with a disability, similar to friendship group that Interchange have in Latrobe Baw Baw region: Sara met with Kathy (Interchange) spoke about waitlist management for Interchange, and eligibility to HACC program, for those families that could link into these services. Jodi (GSHS) still to chat with Kathy re: friendship group for young adults. Updates/ Information Jodi to email out information on community kitchens for CCG hospitality courses. Jodi (GSHS) - Respite programs are hitting targets now. Any new referrals will be waitlisted. - Looking to develop dementia specific program. To be run on Thursdays. Ready to go, just need referrals, across South Gippsland, Transport provided. Pick up 9-10am drop off between 2.30-4.30pm. Program will run between 10am-2pm with lunch. - Also to run the Happy Program (seated exercise/ or weight bearing program) in Loch, currently running in Korumburra, Tarwin Lower, Leongatha, Mirboo North. Nicki (Vis Aus) - Self Help groups across the region. Clients that have participated in courses or have Respite Provider Network Minutes Proforma 2010 ITEM DISCUSSION through clinic/service continue to socialise and undertake varying activities. Self-help groups have developed, new one in Leongatha, runs monthly, supported by volunteers (usually partners of person with vision impairments). Some clients attend to give carer respite. ACTION Sara (SGSC) - Closer to meeting targets than they have been, sitting on targets. But continue to send referrals, don’t have a wait list, but if there is, will prioritise. Do generate private works, fee for service, money coming in to provide more HACC services. - Have just rolled out wheels to meals, Korumburra, foster, Leongatha, very successful. - Resource: Home and Community Care Service in Gippsland. Can be uploaded onto all computers. Flip Chart hard copy available through Latrobe Community Health. Nicki- Recspo- Vision Australia, GippSport, Rural Access and Blind Sport Victoria. Annual Event, going to be at new leisure centre in Sale. Program set up for people with blindness or low vision but open to anybody that would like to go along. Free Day, 22 nd November. 10-12 activities, outdoor/ indoor, line dancing, swish, archery, tennis, cricket and more, adaptations made so people with disability are able to participate. - Hope to focus next years event in South Gippsland/ Bass Coast. Dan (GippSport)- Social Inclusion week last week of November, will be lots of community events up through Baw Baw, Latrobe, range of arts and music’s festivals, wheel talk seminars, wheel chair basketball exhibition game. - International Day of Person with a disability 3rd December going to be holding a beach festival at Inverloch for people with a disability. To highlight issues and barriers to beach access for people with disability. Activities include, beach Volley Ball, surfing, sand sculpting, snorkelling, rock pooling, sail ability, kayaking, wind surfing. Need to register for some activities. First of 3 festivals across the summer, Feb- Hazelwood pondage, Feb-March- Paynesville. - Educational Seminars – GippsTafe Cert. 4 students, about AAA, people with disability should be provided the opportunity to participate in sport and recreation. Specialist Schools through out Gippsland, two teacher/parent forums a year, give lecture about sports and recreation. - Identified transport is an issue to getting people with a disability participating in sport and rec. this year will be training min. 1 staff member at each school to present sports through normal programs and generate participation in sports and link into local sports clubs. Nicky will distribute flyers when they come out. Dan will send out all flyers to all events ect. that will be happening over the coming months. ACTION Gippsland All Abilities Football Team has been invited to play at half time at Etihad Stadium, Round 24, Western Bulldogs vs Fremantle Game. GippSport Searching for a Big Bus, 20 players plus carers <<<< Help? Jodi to forward details of Harley’s. 60 seater bus available. Alex (CCG) Transition to new Leongatha campus still a little while off. Hopefully make transition in January and fully operational by February. Still encourage community agencies to utilise the hub. Had great start with Yooralla Cert III hospitality students. Again looking for opportunities for groups to undertake a course, either fee for service or if looking accredited courses then funded by Skills Victoria. Education and Training as a respite activity. Future Options Expo (Baw Baw LENN) Showcase/ Expo Link in with other networks; identify who would like to be involved. Each service has their own stall with information on the services that they provide. Through out the day people would come through and gather information. Could run activities, e.g. Laughter Clinic, The Happy Program. Opportunity for the community to really know what was out there. First hour service providers, then in the afternoon open to public? Two day seminar- Day one for service providers and other professionals to learn more about what is around. Day two, open to the public. (Group decided to put on expo at the end of the year?) Sandra (Milpara), has list of networks that all participants were involved in. Probably best to target organisations and specific persons. Service Banners: Disability, Community Services, Mental Health, Homelessness, Child and Family Services. Sub groups. - Sport and Recreation - Education - Rural Access; Community Development - Access and planning. ACTION Jasmine to look at available Grants from Shire Councils. Professionals to have the opportunity to ask questions and share information. Opportunity for community to know what is available and what is out there. Better planning and providing information to councils, and other interested bodies for access and planning. ACTION Memorial Hall, biggest venue in the South Gippsland Shire.
